The only thing that may curb my appetite for collecting is physical space. I live in a small 2 bedroom house, and I’ve already given up my master bedroom to my collection due to it’s larger size. I’m either going to have to move to a bigger house or sacrifice my second, smaller bedroom and start sleeping in the living room. I can see me living in a house like the Lady’s one day and loving it.
It’s the same for me. I still avidly collect HALLOWEEN items, but not so much the masks. A few years ago I got an AHG/JC/NAG h78 that totally killed my “sweet tooth” for Myers masks. I still come here often, but can only take so many costume threads. I wish more people collected movie memorabilia. The cliques have always been around but that is the same for most boards. 6 years is a long time but I hope to keep coming here…Larry
i can agree to an extent. ive been here since sean clark sold his mini 75’s and thoes days were alot easier back then.now a days there are to many bad seeds here and there that have in a small but noticable way tarnished this hobbie in more ways than one. i myself only own 3 myers masks(dont see the need to own realy any more than 4 or so). the rest of my myers collection is mass produced toys, busts, figures etc. but about a year or year and a half ago i realized i had just about everything that was offered(or i wanted) in the mass produced area. so…i started looking into custom items. and to tell you the truth im more happy with my custom items rather than some of the other items that are easily obtainable. i also focus on other horror characters as well, being diverse helps take away some of the stress found around here. just my two cents

I can relate from first hand experience here. I actually did “LEAVE” for a long time then I started browsing the forums again and the fire so to speak started to burn again. I sold every mask I had and even made a farewell thread. I am truly happier now that Ive rebuilt my collection and the missing void has been filled. It’s not over till the fat lady sings
Glad to be here and glad to have all of you with me

All great posts guys. I have to agree with you bro in that its good to take a break every now and then. And even with all the B.S. that goes on around here is there a better place to celebrate all things MICHAEL MYERS and HALLOWEEN…HELL NO. I just needed to vent a little thats all. Take care fellas
Mike
Mike, I can understand what you are saying but not to the point it takes away from your pleasure of collecting. You’re a great guy and one of the people who make the hobby more fun so it’s a shame some aspects of the community leave you feeling bummed!
Just keep in mind that the gorgeous mask you have in your avatar would NOT be in your collection were it not for your activity on the boards!!
I am only saying that while sometimes you may feel “better off” had you not ever joined the community (and the inherent negatives that CAN come along with a larger community) you must see the good too. Your joy of collecting may in some ways feel lesser sometimes but does it REALLY when you look at the pieces you now own as a result?
Sometimes we all need a break, but in the end…damn this community kicks ass!!!
EXCELLENT POST.
Almost EVERY conflict I’ve been in (not necessarily directly most times, but affected by to some degree) has been the result of a literal unintentional misunderstanding due to intent of the meaning of words posted vs the intent deciphered by the person(s) reading the words!
As you said “it’s tough when you are not verbally communicating”. That’s it in a nutshell!
The second part of your post I included in the quote above is also very relevant to my sentiments toward the subject.
The boards should only be an escalator to your enjoyment of the hobby, NEVER an inhibitor.
Don’t let anyone ever take the fun out of your enjoyment of the hobby. Life is full of problems, this hobby we all love is an escapism that shouldn’ t be tainted by a person or a few bad apples.
I must have just changed my avatar pic right before you finished posting Thank you Benny I feel the same about you too bro and I value our friendship. And you sure are right about my NAG/JC 75K MYERS it sure is one hell of a smokin mask and I am grateful to have it in the collection. Like I mentioned earlier I just needed to vent a little. I really do love this hobby and should not let the negative outweigh the positive around here. Reading everyones posts have made me think a little differently and I feel more back on track. Hey HALLOWEEN is right around the corner. 3 months and counting
Take care man. Mike
Absolutely great Post Mike. So many good points made
by you, Benny & Nick. I’m feeling the same way you do @ the moment
and all this “SHIT” & “CLICKS” & DRAMA is the cause of it. I’m done with it.
I’ve had it.
sometimes I wish I could go back to the tie I first joined MM.Net and seen all the mask that all looked perfect… back when NAG, SSN and other names meant nothing to me. ALL I could see was a really cool mask. I assume it the same for others. the boards dont seem as full as they used too… but October is fastly approaching and more people can discover the wonderful world of replica masks…hopefully
Too many great points made here for me to address them all. I’m right there with you in most ways, Brother Mike. Nick, Mike (clown,) & Benny also hit on fantastic points. My passion for collecting will probably never die…but I have to say, Jim (who I can no longer call “Caps-Lock”) posted exactly what I’m feeling.
It’s like you said, Mike - you learn who your true friends are
That’s good to hear Jim. I’m taking a step back and really reevaluating my friendships and how I feel about collecting altogether. Thank you everyone who posted as all your opinions and advice are appreciated. This forum can be such a fun place to take part in. I just need to reconnect with how I felt when I first joined M-M.NET and stay in that frame of mind. Mike

Excellent points everyone. I do find myself coming less and less. The topics are too sporadic and people I once respected have shown their true colors. I also don’t like the double standards that accompany all sites. Garbage, fighting, whining and now death threats…I really have better things to do with my time. As for the cliques, it comes with the territory but is very immature. If you can’t appreciate the art from everyone, then move on professionally. Courtesy is a forgotten trait in the time of the internet. Hiding behind a computer and bashing one another is no way to enjoy a hobby that we all love. If you are too tired than sleep; if you don’t like your job than get another; if you are too annoyed with the net than don’t login (not directed at anyone, just saying in general).
As much fun as I have had learning and meeting people, it doesn’t come without its lows
Great stuff Mike and good luck, it is cyclical
Thanks man… Its good having guys like you around here. Take care. Mike
