I read that for making the HalloweeN 2018 mask they studied several ones which were very old to see how they aged over the years.
However I don’t think any latex product will age and get wrinkles, they do rot but I’ve never seen one such as in the movie.
Has anyone of you pictures of masks in similar conditions that could have been used as examples ?
I actually looked up the same thing when I heard that and couldn’t find one picture of that type of aging either. I think rob zombies mask may have been more accurate in that regard
When you look at the original 1978 hero mask as it appears today, it doesn’t look like that. Some how I feel like they were stretching the truth, just saying that to hype everyone up for the new mask. Of course, I could be wrong.
They should’ve just paid the guy who owns the OG hero and laser scanned/3d print the original hero mask,to reproduce rotten replicas for the film. They could also use the scans ,to piece the mask back together in a zbrush(online 3d sculpting) format and return it to original shape to make pretty spot on replicas if done right(derived from the hero without having to lay a finger on it) I still really enjoy the new mask and think it looks great, but the cracking definitely doesn’t look as real as it could but you know,it’s just a movie so I can’t complain too hard lol. I’m happy with what we got though.
The H40 mask is cool and unique looking, for sure, but the actual aging definitely bears little resemblance to what they came up with. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47A3wyWa6Ho
I like what Nick did in this video, showing an approximation of how the mask probably should have looked, based on how the Hero is today. Still creepy and decayed, but in a more believable way.
Actually depends on where you store the latex. I’ve got masks from 20 years ago and they have aged differently on where I stored them. The ones in the attic are not too dissimilar to the H40 due to the warmth and sunlight hitting them over time. They are actually smaller now. The shrinkage has given it wrinkles lol. So I’d say the film mask is somewhat ok to aging if it was kept in a certain way.
