I’m fairly new at the mask purchasing and prop collecting. Today, a friend of mine were discussing proper mask care in order to ensure that the masks last as long as we do. Mind you, all my props and masks are being displayed only. I am not wearing these bad boys!
Can you guys give any helpful tips on the proper steps to take in order to maintain your masks as well as an idea of how long these masks typically last?
I assume that if you keep them out of direct sunlight, in a well air condition room no warmer than 78 degrees, and don’t man handle them often, that they will retain the condition that they arrive in. What say you Michael-Myers community?
Danny, this is all you have to do bro. Remember latex these days are much stronger.
Go by these rules and your mask will last a life time.
-Keep them out of sunlight
-Keep them cool
-Wipe down the inside and powder after each use
-Dust 1 or 2 times a week with a feather duster
-Keep them stuffed with plastic bags on a stand to maintain their shape
Agreed with everything said ^^^. In addition, its always a good thing to display them in some kind of case (not required but it will help certainly). You can get harriet carter doll cases for literally $18 a piece or something like a detolf glass cabinet from Ikea. I think they only run around $50 or maybe less.
heres wat u do
1,no sunlight defernatly a no no
2,no daylight as daylight allso contains natural UV its basically like sun, most people dont realise that
3,dust them around 1 or 2 times a week with a duster
4,stuff them up with plastic bags to keep there natural shape
5,keep them on a stand
6,dont smoke near them as nicotine damages latex badly overtime or stains it
7,make sure ur hands are clean before handeling them incase u got anything on your hands that could damage it,
8,if you wear them use a damp cloth and then dry it out with a towel and powder it with baby powder
thats about it really, very easy to look after and if u have some really rare masks u can buy dust free cases and UV protected for like £70
quite expensive but worth it for the rarer ones i have a few like that
hope this helps
I just wanted to thank you all for the great advice. You have definitely been beyond helpful with your insight. I can now proudly display my pieces without worrying about instant decay or damage.
