Mask care with silicone oil?

Hello guys, just a short question here.
i found in one of our stores a bottle of silicone oil, especially suitable for latex care.
i actually thought that all oil based substances can be very harmful for the latex material.
maybe anyone has made experiences with silicone oil and can share them?
thanks.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Never put anything silicone based on your masks. If you ever want to repaint or rehair the mask NOTHING will stick to it, EVER! Also silicone doesn’t react well with natural latex especially a silicone oil combo. Also never put armor-all on them. Do yourself a favor. If you have to clean a mask use nothing but a light soap solution and lightly wipe it. Also If your masks have any sort of charcoal used for weathering any liquid will remove it if it isn’t sealed.

Thanks for your time to clearing things up for me.
really helpful informations.

Agreed! Anything with the word oil, NEVER, EVER, NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, get it near latex.

NEVER!

I’m totally clear about that oil/grease can destroy latex over time.
and Sam’s statements about repainting and rehairing problems are very plausible.
but fact is the description of the silicone fluid says, cares & seals high quality latex pieces, like for example expensive latex clothes. that just has made me curious.

Hi

Have you seen this infosite about mask care? if not i may be of interest to you as others, many good things to know about, especially when masks are sold NEW from maskmakers with no mask care sheet attached to it,just a paperstamped note from the company with no info of care at all, just a companylogo, :unamused: :unamused:

Great tips from Kelly Mann. I also read on Don Post’s Facebook page to keep copper or brass away from latex masks. He said if you handle pennies/copper, or brass, do not touch a latex mask without washing your hands. These metals are immediately harmful to latex, and attack the protein in it. I would suggest adding bronze to the list, because some types of bronze are oil impregnated.
