Mask painting question

Hi all, this is a question for those of you who have rehauled a mask. I’ve never repainted a latex mask before, so please excuse the newbie question. I’ve heard you can use acrylic paint as long as you mix it with liquid latex to prevent cracking. I’ve also heard you can use straight acrylic paint but then you would have to seal it with a flexible rubber coating, such as Plasti Dip. If you mix in the liquid latex with the paint, would you still have to seal it with the Plasti Dip when you are finished?

Some people paint with just acrylic and then seal it, but I wouldn’t do that. Eventually, that paint will be prone to cracking. Pick up some liquid latex from Spirit before the season is over. It works just fine. Mix it is a 1:1 ratio with the paint and you are good to go. Technically you won’t need to seal it, but you can still do so to protect the paint. Again, there are some that use clear plasti-dip or mod podge, but my understanding is that the better options are liquitex sealer or Createx top coat.

Excellent, that’s answered my question brilliantly. Although, I can’t get the liquid latex from Spirit as I live in Australia but I’ll find an equivalent stockist over here. Cheers mate!

Are liquitex sealer and/or Createx top coat the best to seal a latex mask after it’s painted?
