i mave a mask my dad gave me when i was a kid that is very special to me. it is starting to dry rot and is becoming very brittle. there is also a rip between the eye holes. does any one have any recomendations to slow the rotting and repair the rip. PLEASE HELP!!!
Ive heard of people using corn starch to preserve there masks (to keep it from deteriorateing), but as for the rip I dont know what to tell ya, could you psot some pictures of the mask?
i might eventually. i was thinking of getting a peice of latex from another mask and patching it with liquid latex do you think this would work. the mask is very old, it was purchased in 1978
Well… As far as the dry rot goes, you’re going to want to have it professionally foam filled, so the mask will retain a constant shape and not fold onto itself. I believe you could use some latex to patch the rip but I would probably have that professionally done as well. Btw, what mask is it?
I recomended you get it foam filled if you are not goin to wear it…Send it to the mask dr…

He’s top notch & his prices are resonable…
its a late 70s topstone bat mask. ive never scene another one like it. i dont think i could foam fill it because the hair on the back is done over fabric. the mask has a sorta back hood of polyester fabric. thanks for your posts
You can still foam the face if its a half mask and then stuff the back side and mount it on a stand. Send it to the mask dr.
Hey, not sure about slowing the rotting process down but for the rip i heard of a good way, cover either newspaper or toilet roll in latex and patch it up, after a couple of layers it will be thick and it will feal perfect, then just paint over it to match the colour of the mask with acrylic/latex 50:50
Send it to the mask Dr… you’ll wont be disapointed…
He’s one of the best restorer in mask community… send him n email…
again you wont be disapointed…
Thanks for this Carlos. I’ve never seen this website before, I’ll keep it in mind if I need to get anything foam filled.

thanks guys
Im you want. PM me and I can fix it for you. Ive fixed a few old school masks in my time
Nothing against you but is that a good idea? I mean he lives in the US and you’re in the UK so shipping all that way may damage it even more, you know how they are, not careful
Yeah…However Ive never had a problem with anything getting damaged. And Ive had some big weird and wonderfull things sent to me. You’ll hear bad things about the post…but how often to people complement them? a few broken boxes here and there is nothing when compared to the thousands and thousands of parcels they deliver each and every day.
- If its packed well…there will be no problems.
yeah, as long as it is packed well actually, nothing should go wrong
