Mask size

Does anyone know the average size a mask is supposed to fit for me ?

gotta measure your crown first to know what size would fit

I think what you’re asking is what size mask you should be looking for when you buy one…

It’s really simple. You need to measure your head.

Take a piece of string (or you can use a long phone charger cable if you don’t have string) and place one end of it about an inch above your eyebrows in the center of your forehead. Hold that end with one hand so it doesn’t move. Then, with your other hand, wrap the string around your head so it makes a full circle around your skull. With the same hand you used to wrap it, mark the exact spot on the string where it overlaps the end that you’ve been pressing to your forehead by pinching the string between two fingers. At this point you simply measure the length of string that was used to make a circle around your head and PRESTO BINGO you now know how big around your noggin’ is.

Here’s a link to a website that kind of shows what I mean.

If I understand correctly, here’s a breakdown of mask sizes (please correct me if I’m wrong):

<23" is going to be unwearable. A mask this size is really for display only OR for children… or an adult with an exceptionally small noodle.
23-23.5" is considered small… and likely unwearable for the majority of adult males.
24-24.5" is kind of your medium to large size category… many of the masks made by indie artists are available in this range. It encompasses the average head size of an adult male.
25"+ is large. This is going to be for the guys and gals with lots of brain power. A big dome needs a big ol’ mask.

HOWEVER: None of this takes into account your facial features. The bone and cartilage structures that make up your face can drastically change the size of mask you may need. TYPICALLY, your cranium should have the largest diameter of any part of your head. BUT, people with unusually large cheekbones (me) or a jumbo sized schnoz may need to get a mask that’s a little bigger to accommodate their, uh, extra beauty. A Jay Leno sized chin is going to have a rough time inside a 24" mask. Just sayin’. ALSO, the more a mask stretches to accommodate your facial features, the more it distorts. If you want your mask to look the same whether it’s on your head or on a stand, be sure to buy a size that’s a little bigger than you’d normally wear.

Speaking of stretching…

The thickness of the mask can play a HUGE role in what size you may need. A “thin pull” can stretch and accommodate your bean, meaning you may be able to get by with a smaller size. Whereas a mask that is considered a “thick pull” doesn’t stretch very much. If you’re buying a mask that is a thick pull and it’s even a little bit too small, well, let’s just say it’s a whole lot like male-specific contraception. It’s uncomfortable and god-awful ugly, but it gets the job done.

Hope that helps!

This is some excellent info that needs to be pinned!

Great information theHEDGE. I just measured and my head is 22", possibly 22.5" if I measured slightly wrongly, but no bigger. Being intellectually challenged aside :sob:, does this mean I’m really going to struggle to wear masks well?

I’ve been reading about the NAG masks and am definitely interested in getting one. Is this a pipe dream with my head size?

I have bought and sold two masks so far due to size issues. I have a long thin face with a small head. The TOTS 2018 is just right. The TOTS 78 is way too big. The DarkLabs H1 is too small.

Very frustrating to say the least. GREAT info here.

What I am looking for is a ‘small or medium’ 78 mask. I think the Boogeyman or Elrod may be close to what I need, but not sure.

Good luck in the search!

In my own experience, a mask that is too big is WAAAY better than one that is too small. A mask that is too small tends to look awful when they stretch and conform to your head and face. Consider yourself fortunate that you’re not like some of the collectors here that have 25"+ heads… they have it the roughest.

You can always wear a ski-mask or something else underneath the Myers mask to fill up some of the space. Being as you have a smaller head, I’d say your best bet is to buy something 24" or less and rely on some additional head coverings to help fill in the empty space unoccupied by your noggin’.

Hope that helps.

Yes, that helps a lot theHEDGE.

Sounds pretty much like what I’ve had to do with the boots. I’m UK size 11, so 11.5 US according to most size charts (tiny head, slightly larger than average feet, go figure), but I could only find the Vietnam era boots with the right sole in a US 14. I’ll wear thick socks and pad them out a little, won’t be fighting in the jungle or walking long distances, so should be ok.

Thanks for all the advice.

What size is your head, blue harvest, if you don’t mind me asking? I have a ToTS 78 being rehauled as I write, lol, but I had to start somewhere. As theHEDGE said, better to be too big than too small.

Sorry for the delayed response. I have a pin head… 22 inches. That has to be about as small as it gets, and since the DL is too small for me, I don’t know how anyone can wear it[emoji2373]

My head is 22 and 1/2 inches all the way around, I can fit a 23" mask, but need a mask for it to sit properly due to having a long face as well

Pinheads anonymous lol. My mask arrived but I work away, so have to wait several weeks to get to see it. I’m intrigued to see how it will fit my pinhead and what I can do to fill it out in an emergency.

How did it work out for you?
