On my quest to make a screen accurate 78’ Myers which I talked about in my post in the projects forum, I’m currently looking into finding a rehauler or buying a mask, and I was recommended Nick Mulpagano, but I had some questions for people if they have bought any masks from him in the past
what was the experience like
how much was your mask
And
how satisfied were you with the outcome
Thanks for taking the time ti read and hopefully answer this question of mine! - UL74
I’ve talked with Nick over the years about various masks, including a 78 rehaul. He’s an incredibly nice guy, honorable, and will work with you to get the exact look you want. He will even just rehair the 78 if you’d rather keep the factory paint, assuming you have a good copy. He can also weather and leave the factory hair on. It really depends on what you’re looking for.
I haven’t yet ordered a mask or rehaul because my extra cash is going into savings for a needed third car. Going by my experiences through messages, feedback on Facebook, and feedback here, he’s reliable and honest. His talent and craft speak for themselves.
As for cost and his schedule, it’s best to ask Nick directly. It’s generally frowned upon to share numbers here, but I’ll say this: his 78 rehaul quote is half the price of some indie masks before they’re rehauled. Considering the quality of the work, I feel that’s a bargain. The same goes for a mask quote he also gave me.
I would stay away from nicks tots rehauls. I got one from him and paid him $1,500 for a front of the line order. He promised me it didnt mean that hes going to rush through the mask but just that i paid extra for front of the line access. I got my mask a couple weeks later and it looks really funny. He does way too much on the lips and make them look too fine almost to where it looks like a womans lips with lipstick on and puckered up. Totally not worth it even at normal price
Yep. Im totally bummed with the outcome too. I could have got one of the rarest sickest JC masks or something but it was my first mask when i wanted to start collecting i didnt know much about the myers mask game and i just saw his pics he uses for his promo and it just looks monstrously gorgeous but i got this thing in the mail and was super bummed. It looks okay from certain angles but most of the time the lips look really funny as you can tell in these pics. I put myself at fault for paying all that money for front of the line maybe he half efforted my mask on purpose cuz i wanted it so fast in time for halloween im not sure. But i know i dont like the mask lol but its okay i learned my lesson and got my hands on some killer masks for the right price. Darklabs 78 just looks amazingly accurate. My remzap 2018 is an amazing piece and i got a Kills rehauled by craigscythe thats dead on to the movie. But this mask was a mistake im gonna try to sell it or throw it away lol i dont care about the money im not even beating myself up for that we can always just make more right? Im pissed at the fact i got this mask thats supposed to look amazing from a badass artist and it looks like a “bad myers mask” rehaul. Oh well is what it is im way past that and got some nice masks now so if it dont sell i’ll probably just give it away
Damn dude I’m sorry that happened to you. I’ve always only been a fan of his h2 work all the other stuff just isn’t for me. I love the 13mask but its one of those weird things where it looks great on display but when people wear it something about it just doesn’t look right.
Im not a fan of the 13Mask or any of his masks to be honest.
When i first got into the myers mask game i thought wow he makes em pretty screen accurate i want one. Got one and that happened. Then i came across other artists work like NAG and JC. Then i found the mask community and realized nobody really likes nicks work besides the michael myers of decatour guy. Wish i would have done my research first. Oh well is what it is. I dont recommend any of you guys buy nicks work.
No disrespect, but I don’t have the slightest clue as to what people see in his work. His poster mask is very good…but his H1 is wack. They do not look anything like the mask from Halloween and there are better artists out there. If you have the money, order a NAG and have JC finish it. That being said, he seems to be a very nice dude and his enthusiasm for Halloween and the videos he makes are cool. I also like the orange fire mask he did for kills. Stay away from the H1 and H2 stuff if you want anything remotely accurate.
Lots of bashing of Nick here. It’s enough to say you don’t like the work without shitting on the work.
His H1 sculpts seem to shine when finished by others. It doesn’t seem he’s done an updated base Kirk/H1 sculpt in some time, so I agree there is some inaccuracy. His NHK is closest, IMO.
As for those who had problems with the work, did you ask him to make things right? Did he refuse? Or are you just bitching about it for the sake of complaining. I ask because I’ve been around here (and other online forums) and this is a frequent trend.
You don’t have to like the guy or his work, but it reflects on you when attack someone instead of their work.
And no, I’ve not purchased anything from Nick. I don’t have the funds for anything but TOTS (two kids in high school) but I will defend a person’s character when I believe it’s worth defending.
To be fair I don’t really see any bashing, just people sharing their honest opinions and even complements along with criticism. That’s exactly what the thread was for. I have a dw deluxe and a Dr 81 but that doesn’t mean I have to like everything he does.
Im not bashing nick as a person hes a nice guy. I didnt bother to hit him up to fix it cuz i know the wait time would be insane. But im sure he knew the lips looked the way they did the guy knows his own work he does it everyday. Just look at the pictures and tell me a veteran artist wouldn’t pick that up. I just think he rushed through the mask cuz it was a rush order, but at the same time the price i paid i expected it to be in tip top shape perfect just like his promo pictures. I did say i blame myself for the whole deal i asked him his rush order front of the line price, he gave it to me, and i paid it. My fault.
WOW. I am so sorry to hear about that dude, that legitimately sucks! I read the rest of this comment chain, and I’m lucky to say that I had gone with another artist before I saw all of this.
To go with the comment threads, I don’t think anyone was necessarily “bashing” on Nicks work without cause or reason. The thread had asked about people’s experiences and their received mask, and they answered it in detail. I’m grateful for that, cause so far it seems there have been some more stories that aren’t what I’ve normally heard, which tends to happen. In terms of posting photos and promos, any artist will always put up their best work, it’s just how it works. Do I blame them? No, it’s good for business!
As of right now, I’ve found myself an artist in my price range who’s work that has been posted does look really really good, and I’ve been talking with said artist for the best yet part of half a month to a month, just discussing what I want to do with the mask. The details Eli was asking me has put so much hope and excitement in me. His name is darmok_conversions on instagram, and if you look at what he’s done, it really is stellar, and I would argue pretty honest. With the mask, he asked me just about any questions he could have, even getting reference photos of how my TOTS 78’ masks sits on me to gauge how to alter the eyes properly (which I’ve not heard meant people talk about), as well as the shading, dirt/weathering, the hair and hair style, and the way the skin tones should be done. I’ve sent my mask to him, and he should be getting it soon!
