Masks turning yellow?!

I was hoping someone could help me out here. I have a total of 5 myers masks. They’re in a completely smoke-free home and are kept in a room where the temp hovers around between 64-68 degrees. It seems like the older they get they become more yellowish. I have a don post which has remained unaffected over the past 20years. The other 4 masks were bought from mmp from about 5-8 years ago. These are the 4 masks that are changing color. Does anyone have any advice on how to preserve them better or to prevent this from happening? It doesn’t seem like the integrity of the mask is compromised, just the coloring. Let me know. Thanks.

I believe the paint jobs were sealed with crystal clear and he used to much.Over the years it will cause a mask to yellow. If you seal a mask with crystal clear it has to be a very light coat. This is the same thing that happens with some of the cgp masks…Nothing can fix it really …I like the look of some of the mask that yellow a little.

Hey buddy, I have the same problem. My MMP mask turned a yellowish color pretty bad. It happened a little to my SSN also. DP’s are completely unaffeced. I don’t have an answer as to why or what can be done to prevent or fix it, other than to repaint them. I agree with the above comment that it gives it kind of a cool look.

i know its not what your wanting to hear but from my experience a repaint is the only thing that will fix the problem. i had an issue with a mask yellowing, it was only one but i couldnt seem to find anything safe to clean it off or stop it. only a repaint. good luck and if you figure something else out that works let us know.

…This is very Common and will/does happen to alot of masks. This is called ‘‘Rusting’’
This can be caused by many things,
Over the years, dust, dirt and grime will build up.
It is most common when too much latex is mixed into the paint.
Bleeching from the sun or UV lights.
And bare in mind the colour white (no matter what material) will eventually pose a yellow tint. Old news papers and plastics are a good example of this.
To fix the problem:
Try using sugar soap and warm water. CAREFULLY give it a good scrub. If that fails, A re-paint will be needed.
To prevent the problem:
Keep your masks out of the sunlight, and keep them clean and dust free.
Hope that helps!

WOW, killah. Good to know for future probs. Thanks for the heads up.

yellowing can occur due to a few different reasons. other than the most typical reason (simple aging), the wrong type of paint (or mixtures of paint) can cause the discoloration. once a mask stars yellowing, there really is no going back. it will either remain the same yellow color or continue to yellow. the only thing to do from that point is either accept it or have it repainted. although sometimes if the repaint is not done properly, the yellow may proceed to bleed through. even after the repaint.

my CGP H3 skull was yellowed quite a bit when I received it (as many CGP masks have done) so I completely re hauled the paint job by basing the mask in a few layers of black. then finished it off with the white/grey sponging.

Thanks for all the input, guys! Unfortunately a repaint is out of the question, at least for the one, it’s signed. My main concern is that I have an early run CGP Warlock coming my way and I really don’t want that to happen with it. I tried posting a picture here so you guys could check it out compared to the other masks I own, but apparently I’m an idiot and can’t figure it out. Anyway, thanks again for all of the advice! I’ll keep trying to figure out how to post a picture when I have some time.

Okay, I’m going to try to post pics one last time… Hopefully it’ll work and you guys can see what I’m dealing with. The 2 “Samhain” masks on the ends are the only ones changing color.

Is the one on the left middle a UL75? Whats the one next to it? My UL75 turned yellow real bad.

Yeah, the one middle left is a ul75 v1. The one middle right is a ul75 v2. I’m on a quest to get the perfect h2 mask .Which I think I got, when it comes (warlock). And then I’ll be on a quest for the most accurate h1 mask I can find. I’m just really worried they’ll yellow. I’ll probably end up putting them in glass cases to see if that helps at all, when I finally get them.
