Michael Myers Mask in the Original Film

I just watched Halloween and noticed something about Michael’s mask.

The scene where he strangles Linda with the phone chord, then picks up the phone…we get a really clear shot of Michael’s mask. It looks like the whole mouth and chin are really sculpted and protruding from the mask. There’s no way its an issue of lighting…the mouth and chin really look like they’re sticking out a bit.

Then in other shots his mask looks really flat and blank. I don’t know it’s just strange how different his mask looks from one scene to the next. I know it’s all mostly due to lighting etc.

It’d be nice to get a mask that has that look to the mouth and chin.

PS, does anybody else cringe when Myers pulls that mask back over his face after Laurie rips it off him?

They call that the “Nick Castle pull”. He hated wearing the mask… and would constantly pull on the mouth and chin so he could breath better during the filming of the movie. The mask was made for kid, and was a little too small for his size head.
I read this somewhere - don’t know if it is entirely true. Make sense though.

I had once heard he also opened his mouth really wide while wearing the mask to breath better. Doing that can protrude the mouth area of a mask. With lighting and shade, definitions look a tad more defined.

wow. i literally googled “nick castle pull” and found a thread on here that TOTALLY explained it.

insane

Nick has a long narrow face. the mask didnt fit proper. his nose is a lil large. didnt fit into the mask like it should. and his mouth wasen’t at the masks mouth. basically his mouth was under the chin of the mask… of our favorire kirk mask. as when T.LW. - To-y Lee Wallace wore it. it looked diffrent. Nick gave the stretch look.

it definitely looked more ghostly and creepy the way castle wore it. especially in the phone scene

Hence why it’s my avatar. :sunglasses: It’s probably my favorite single shot in the franchise.

I agree thats my favorite shot off the mask to. I also like the shot in the closet when he looks at lorie.

Wow, for a second there I thought I’d entered an older thread from many years back.

It was mostly light and shadows.

That’s not the exact best angle, maybe 2-3 seconds before…when he’s lifting his head and the mask is pointing downward…you can see how pushed out it looks.

Wow, for a second there, I thought I entered a thread where everyone could properly use punctuation.
