Hey guys, I hate to sound like a noob but I wanted to discuss the heavy breathing (grunting) from H1. Was the heavy breathing something JC added to make Michael more creepier or was that all Nick Castle? I know in the closet scene Tommy Wallace was behind the mask, not Castle. But the grunting sounded the same. Could anyone shed any light on this?

I think the breathing and heavy breathing/grunting was recorded in post (production), otherwise, you never would have heard the breathing, unless the mics were right up against the actor. I’m sure it was all laid in after the fact in the editing room. As we see in the beginning of Halloween II, the breathing in the Wallace bedroom is noticeably quieter, different even.
I have heard it was the camerman?
To make it creeper or was the cameraman stuck in the closet ?
Sorta off-topic, but possibly inspiration for RZ’s grunting Myers?
He was breathing in the original (yes, with some slight grunts) and violently grunting in Zombie’s H2.
I like the mild grunting (breathing) in H1 compared to the extreme noises made in RZH2
