Hey folks, I received my mohair the other day for hairing my mask. This is my first hairing attempt of a Myers mask and frankly I’m a little wary haha. I just don’t want to waste good hair.
My questions are regarding the dye process. I’ve heard some people use vinegar /hot water and rit dye etc, some no vinegar as a binding agent. Do I need to use the vinegar for proper color binding?
Also is it advisable to use liquid latex for the hair application and tacky glue for the hairline?
I have Rit dye in dark brown, navy blue, yellow, tan btw. Which rit dye would be best for the H2 look?
I have a lot of questions, thanks in advance. Pm if you feel more comfortable chatting there.
The hot water will make the dye grab very fast so make sure you get it soaked fast. The hotter the water the faster and stronger it will dye.Your going to ruin some hair no doubt so do small batches trying different colors.I don’t always use vinegar.Loose the fear and just have fun and look at it as school.Good luck
Thanks Bro! In terms of amount of dye, what do you suggest? 3 oz of dark brown and tan each?
I’ve found that Rit Camel works good for achieving that H2 look, the dark brown was way too dark and had a purplish tint to it. 32oz of hot water with 3oz of dye worked just fine for me.
Rit dye is very tricky when diluted, so I’d suggest testing a sample first.
I was dying some coveralls once and used diluted black and though I’d get grey.
Nope - purple!
What’s the best way to heat the water and does it make difference , microwave for 4 mins, stove top pot heat or hot tap water.
4 min of microwaving seems to do the trick when heating up 32oz of water, I learned this from Nick Mulpagano’s mask making dvd, great instructional dvd by the way.
I’ve actually used hot ass tap water before and it worked fine.
