I don’t know if this has been done before since I haven’t been on this forum for a long time but I thought it might be an interesting topic to discuss. Aside from Michael, who do you think is the most important character to the original Halloween franchise? For me it’s definitely Dr. Loomis. He is the Van Helsing to Michael’s Dracula. He knows just how evil Michael is and what he is capable of. He is always trying to get everyone to listen to reason and prepare for the worst. Plus, he made the ultimate sacrifice in what should have been the end of the Myers story by going down with his patient in a great explosion. Besides all that, Donald Pleasance is just awesome. I love Jamie Lee Curtis too, but I enjoy Pleasance’s character more. It’s like he was born to play that role. There will never be another Loomis.
Thanks for reading
I figure if I vote on such a question I should give insight as to why.my reason being.loomis knows micheal.loomis tried to make others believe how dangerous micheal was and not to release him to lower security.now if he could’ve convinced their may have not of ever been a luarie.again.at the end of the film.luarie says whats the boogeyman.dr.loomis states…as a matter of fact it was…definitely wasn’t an easy pick.both of them were sensational in these roles.and will always be appreciated and loved because of this!
I met this 6 year old child with this blank pale emotionless face and, the blackest eyes, the devils eyes. I spent eight years trying to reach him and then another seven trying to keep him locked up because I realized what was living behind that boys eyes was purely & simply evil. -Dr Loomis
I love both characters but ultimately had to give my vote to Loomis. For the first 6 movies(except pt3) Loomis was the guy who really put over Michael being an evil force of nature. As someone else said he is the van helsing to michaels dracula, whereas in h1 and h2 Laurie is the damsel in distress who survives both movies thanks to Loomis.
There hasn’t been a movie without at least 1 of the 2 characters in it and I love them both but overall I think Loomis played a more important role
Loomis was a huge part of what made “Halloween” the franchise it was for me. I couldn’t get into H20 or Resurrection partly because of the lack of the Loomis character.
Loomis is easily the second most important character in the series after The Shape itself, and almost goes hand in hand with him, which is a big reason why I think the series has never recovered from Donald Pleasence’s absence or the absence of any similar (but well done, can’t just toss anyone in there) character. Dr. Loomis is essentially the driver for the plot.
Loomis is the obvious choice. Central character and author of the narrative for Michaels tendencies and actions. He is critical to the institutional history of Michaels character. In the H1 book more extensive dialogue was written about the institutional days for Michael as a child.
Loomis drives the story for Halloween. I think it is critical to add a descendent of Loomis family to the sequel to make the future stories more enticing. If not that then why not recast the character with someone who looks just like him? Ift is possible. Some fans may not be interested in revising this character. I think it would make the future films interesting.
Yes I agree & if you are familiar with Stefan Hutchinson Halloween comic book series “One Good Scare” they do exactly that with Sam Loomis son David Loomis. He becomes obsessed with Michael Myers & tries tracking him & when he finally comes face to face with him he is terrified & watches Michael kill Lindsey Wallace who is now an adult & also a patient at smith’s grove. Its pretty awesome.
