Is it a bad idea to slit the mouth on a mask that isn’t already? What is the best way to go about doing this without screwing up the mask?
If it is a Myers Mask, I wouldn’t, but If it isn’t then I really don’t know!
I honestly can’t tell you if it’s a good ideal or not to slit the mouth on a Myers mask. I did purchase a NAG 78 by Madman and its mouth was cut. I guess it’s your preference. If it’s your mask and you want to cut the mouth, more power to ya. Myself, I like the mouth uncut.
if you’re not confident in your skills, don’t cut the mouth.
This is coming from me personally, unless I was 100% confident that I could that I could manage the task of cutting between the lips of a latex mask (perfectly), without any imperfections, I would just assume sending it to someone with experience, or leaving it alone, because once you cut, you can’t go back. It may sound unpractical to send a mask to a busy artist just to separate the lips, but at the end of the day it’s better to do that, than risk ruining a perfectly fine mask. Hope this helps. …ANDY
It’s not that hard really. I just use my H2 scalpel to cut any mouth slits I do.
Thanks for all the advice guys.
Whatever you do, don’t cut it with a cutting knife unless you are good with it. I slit my Nightmare mask with a cutting knife and it didn’t go well because if you look closely you could see that it wasn’t smooth and had “zig-zag” edges and I hated it. Then 1 day I decided that I should just try to smoothen the edges with a scissor (professional hair scissor not regular paper scissor) and cut the pointed edges, it worked great and looks good now. Then I just used the same scissor to cut 2 of my other masks and it couldn’t be any better, I just fold the mask vertically and then cut the lining of the lips giving it a straight lip slits and it looks perfect. Like Matt said, it’s not really hard. Hope this helps, Colby.

I would just leave it if I were you.
