My '86 DP is melting

:frowning: Well this is my second one since owning my first in '88 from a friend.
This one seems to not just melt, but harden as well. The weather here has not been good to latex. They dont get any direct sunlight, hardly any natural light at all really, and soon enough it will just be trash.

I’m wondering if salvaging the hair is something worth doing. Is there anything special about the hair that someone would want or is it the same hair they use today.
I hate sitting here watching it, day by day, deteriorating in front of my eyes. I love the '86 DP probably more than any other Myers.
I know it’s not a custom $300+ sculpt but I always thought it was a good looking mask for being a $20 retail mask.

So what would you do ?

EYE

MOUTH

HAIRLINE

Some guys would foam fill it, I would personally just coat it with plasti-dip, permatex makes it. Its a rubber sealer. I’m afraid yours is beyond repair since dry rot has set in, but what I did was find a replacement, and I got really lucky, I scored one off fee bay for $50. I’ll post the 2 masks pictures for ya here in a sec… you think yours is bad

Here ya go. I actually keep mine as a reminder of not only the first myers mask I bought (this was purchased @ Universal Studios in 1983) but as a reminder of what the rest of my collection could be if I dont take care of it. Who knew in 83 that cornstarch and wiping down sweat was needed. Let alone a preservative sealant. Anywho If I was you, I would be on a daily search on ebay and here if the mask really means that much to you. Hope this helps
Don

I have powdered it once and none of my others so it would be a good idea to get on that. What is the preferred method to doing it?
I got this one in 2001 off eBay for like $35. I keep an eye out for others though. I know there is an '85 for $200 but that’s a bit too much for my collecting wallet.
It’s too bad DP never re-issued this version before selling off the master. I think it beats any other Myers they ever did.

 What? YOURS is MINT compared to this one of mine!

Just keep watching, there was a guy here a while back on here that sold 2 of them. The one on feebay right now that thing is mint. I waited 30 years to get mine replaced :open_mouth:

Just get a box of cornstarch and sprinkle it around inside, its a little late though :frowning: but you can still seal/foam fill it to keep it from shrinking more

Michaelantern,
If that reply is for me, I’d take what you have over mine. Mine looks like Rocky Balboa right now, screaming out “YO Adrian!”
It’s nose resembles the later years of Michael Jackson.

uwannadon,
At this point I’ll just keep an eye out for a good copy. This one is too far gone to try and do anything. The mouth is just ruined by gravity.
I just wondered if when it goes completely to crap, if offering up the hair was an idea. I would assume not since this is probably the same stuff you get today unlike when people want '70s DP hair.

You’ll find one. Keep your eyes peeled.

BTW, the one on eBay right now is an '89 not an '85/'86

This is what it looked like 2 years ago :frowning: Should have sealed it then.
I hope I find one. Cant imagine there are too many left in good shape.
