I spent 8 hours painting this mask the night before Halloween. I tried other methods before like washing, but the detail would not stay. I ended up painting the whole thing dark brown/black and dry brushed over top. Any ways I could improve for next time?
It’s best to start out with a black wash, then to drybrush whatever tone of white you want with a SMALL brush. The small brushes allow the cracks and damage to shine and stand out as opposed to bigger ones that hide it all. You can then go over the cracks with some oil paint of choice like black or dark brown, as well as the lips. You also can smudge some dark brown around the forehead, ears, and especially the neck to get that age in there. I did all this for my H40 mask.
the details were to shallow on mine the washes didn’t work.
You gotta let the washes dry for a bit, and they gotta be very dark. I use straigh black liquid shoe polish, and it doesn’t need many layers before it gets dark. Make sure when you apply it to see if its sinking into the cracks, you can always add a bit more to fill it. When its time to dry brush, use that small brush and slowly build it up, as too much initially will make it look too unnatural and can hide some detail.
alight thank you bro
