This is my rare very first VHS release of Halloween. It was released by Media Home Entertainment back in 1981 in a vintage yellow box. The second pic is the ultra-rare accidental TV release of Halloween also released by Media Home Entertainment. Media accidentally released this instead of the theatrical version and quickly recalled them after they relized their mistake. There aren’t that much in existence. It includes all of the TV footage and none of the cursing or violence or boob shot. Alot may think it’s not worth it but how often do you really come across this version?
wow nice scores, where did you get those?
Believe it or not I got both on Ebay several years back.
i have the old blockbuster vhs halloween
Those are awesome!!
wow, those are amazing!!! nice!
I have one to
Theres actually an earlier edition of Halloween released by Media BEFORE they were called Media and were called Meda. Many people mistakenly think that its a mistake on the box but it is actually Meda.
Very cool! I have the old Blockbuster one also.
i have the black regular and the tv version one, but have been on the hunt for the yellow box for sometime now!!! especialy with the “meda” instead of “media” i got mine at a little collectable store in town where i live. had to pay almost 30 for it but it was worth it in my eyes(*this is the type of guy who has to much stuff priced at list price and cant sell anything cause of it) also got the 1984 TCM release from media(i payed more for that one…lol) the cover alone is worth it!!! snagg them when you see them boys…VHS is slowly becoming outrageous to collect
had no clue these were rare
i got H1 and H2
marcus
awsome iv just got all the tv cut halloweens on dvds the H2 is awsome its got the ambulance scene at the end and all other scenes in the hospital
that vhs is a great score
Those are both awesome! I also have the blockbuster version still sealed
In 1990 there was another release of the Halloween TV version on VHS. It was not Media. It was under the Video Treasures label. Could be the rarest VHS of them all. If you can find it please post a picture. I have never seen it!
I know this thread is ancient, but I thought it would be a good idea to gin up some discussion about “Halloween” home media, since I cannot find a recent thread on this topic.
In regards to my last post here, I just picked up a copy of the 1990 vhs version on Ebay. I believe that the photograph in this thread is the 1989 version of the accidental TV release.
The 1990 version is the second printing of the 1989 version. This one has both the MEDIA and the VIDEO TREASURES logo on the box. And only the VIDEO TREASURES logo on the tape.
On Angelfire.com, it is said that the 1990 version is extremely rare, " Like trying to find a needle in a haystack." This makes since because I have been collecting vhs on Ebay since 2005, and I have never seen it until just a few days ago.
I would like to find out the true value of this tape in all conditions, and exactly how rare it is compared to all previous MEDIA releases. There has to be a data base online for the exact number of units sold for all vhs printings, but I can’t find it.
Another interesting find I got from Ebay a few years ago was an exact reproduction of the MEDAween box for fifteen dollars.
It was very well done, even minor edge wear on the box is faked. I figured whoever made these would have produced several of them, but I have not seen any others since.
We all know that the MEDAween in good condition is cost prohibitive for 99% of the users on this this site, so the only way I could conceivably get this item relates to the reproduced box.
I figure if I can get the the real tape, I could simply put it into the fake box for display purposes. I guess having half of the MEDA version is better than none at all. Does anyone agree that this combination could have some value?
Any VHS is a cool VHS in my books
Bet that was an expensive “non-return” lol
I bought this from Goodwill for 99c
I got the blockbuster one too, great find.
