How did you manage to get a blank from nikos? I know he doesnt sell them directly to customers only sends them directly to established artists for finishing. I had wanted to buy a blank so i can save a bit and then have it finished by loper. The way its set up right now you have to have both the money ready for the blank and also enough for the finishing by the artist which is a lot in a short span of time. I would have liked to have been able to buy the blank first, save up again for about a month and then send it to be finished.
I asked nikos and he never agreed unfortunately but hey its his decision and i respect it. Just wish it was a bit easier since its the reason i did not end up pulling the trigger on one. Cant afford to spend 550-600$ one shot, 275$ for the blank and then you have to send money to the artist which is around 250-280$ depending. If there was a way to get blanks and then send them to the artist when youre ready that would be awesome.
Yeah paying more than 500-550$ for mask is madness. I draw the line at 600$ tops for a finished one thats really accurate. The only one who can charge more is JC because his masks increase in price due to him having the reputation he has. But still, at the end of the day its latex and its crazy to think that a mask that cost 3-5$ back in the day and was done up by TLW in a few hours or a day is now being replicated by artists who charge 300$ for a blank and then 200-250$ to be done up and finished by an artist. Crazy!
Loper is probably 2nd best after JC and his waiting time is not so bad. If nikos made the blanks more easily available that we could purchase them directly from him then prices wouldnt be so crazy imo but i might be wrong. Still cool just it sucks a little for those that would like to try rehauling themselves since buying a finished copy from him is 375-400$ i believe for a nag 85kcastle special edition. And to me while nice not worth it if im gonna get it rehauled anyways.
Freddy Loper and Rowland Kelly are great artists and comparable to JC in my opinion. Are they JC? No. But you won’t have to wait 7 years, and they do fantastic work with a good turnaround time
If Rowland isn’t at JC level yet, he will be there very very soon. His work as of late has been absolutely stellar - definitely on par with the best I’ve seen. I have a couple masks being finished by him. Can’t wait to see what he does with them!
