Need Advice on Mask display Options.

Hello, I recently bought an upper end Michael Myers Mask to Display in my downstairs collection room. I’m now looking for display stand options. Do you guys just stuff the mask with a black plastic bag that is filled with Cotton or some other filler and then just cap the mask down over on a paper towel holder or is using a PVC mannequin Head placed onto a paper towel holder a better way to display? The reason I ask is because it seems a pvc mannequin head might not fill out the mask for the optimal MM look that many try and achieve. However I may be over thinking this though. Also budget is not a concern…I’m just looking to achieve a clean, professional look. Any help is much appreciated. Thank You.

There are a number of different ways you can display your mask.

First, DON’T use styrofoam heads. Styrofoam will cause the latex to dry out and become brittle over time.

Plastic mannequin heads can work, but I find that they’re typically too small for most masks. Might be a great option for an H40 mask though.

The cheapest option is to stuff it with plastic bags. You can use grocery bags, garbage bags, it doesn’t really matter. I typically have one bag that acts as a liner for the mask, then I stuff additional bags inside to fill it out. You can stand it on a paper towel holder, a wine bottle, really anything that acts as a post.

These plastic wig stands I found on Amazon also work pretty well for masks, but they don’t fill out the shape as well.

There are sellers on Etsy that make mask stands. I’ve got a couple of these, but I still stuff additional plastic bags inside to help the mask keep its shape.

If you want to go the DIY route, there are patterns you can find online to make your own mannequin heads. I’ve done this a couple times, but it’s not the best choice for everyone.

One of the most professional-looking displays I’ve used is a head form that you can buy from silicone mask companies (I get mine from Immortal Masks). It’s a polyurethane foam, so you don’t have to worry about it drying out the latex like styrofoam heads will. They sell a deluxe option that takes acrylic eyes, so that may be worth looking into if you want it to look like the mask is being worn.

Whatever you decide to do, you can stuff additional plastic bags, cotton balls, etc. between the mask and the stand in order to adjust the shape to your liking. I also recommend using a piece of black felt to black out the eye holes. You can get a sheet of felt for 50 cents and have enough material for several masks.

Thank you for the reply and all the information. I’m Definitely going to look into the Head Forms. I’ve got a couple of PVC heads coming from Amazon.Well see how they fit…

I ordered a bunch of styrofoam mannequin heads from Amazon, but kept them in the plastic packaging to avoid the aforementioned styrofoam rot.

I prefer to use glass vases to display my masks.

Thanks To all that have responded so far…

I stuff my masks to the brim with bags then throw them on a small post/wig stand. Works great an its cheap!

Black plastic bags stuffed on a paper towel holder for me

These are helmet stands mounted on a piece of 2x4 that’s anchored to the wall studs. I stuff old t shirts with shopping bags and place them in the holders’ holes, then place the masks over those. You can adjust the size with bags. I also make my own stands. I’ll share the recipe and process when I’m home.

As for lighter and smaller masks like the H3 masks, I use inexpensive wig stands from Amazon. They work great and don’t require stuffing.
