I am the “new” owner of the infamous Medley Kirk, I haven’t come forward so far because I didn’t really want to get involved in the whole posting game etc. I guess I am a bit old school… However, Halloween is just around the corner and I thought it’s time for something I have been meaning to do for a long time!
That and the fact that I recently saw JohnandJenny posting again made me finally kick into higher gear and take the time to sign up here and upload some pictures to share with you all!
About once every 3 months I take the Kirk out from it’s secure and safe resting grounds and do a little cleaning, just to assure it’s longevity doesn’t come to abrupt ends just because the mask changed it’s owner, after all NO ONE absolutely NO ONE has ever taking better care of a 1975 Captain Kirk mask than John Medley!
John, at this point I would like to express my deepest condolences about your loss!
This time I decided to take the eyebrows off because the glue that Bry at M.C. studios used in glueing them back on (he had to take them off for the cast) didn’t seem to hold and I didn’t wanna use anymore chemical substances on the mask than necessary. So here you have the most recent pictures I took, both with and without eyebrows;)
So does the mask have it’s eyebrows now or is it stripped with the plaster residue on the hair line? Kinda confused by the pics. Any ways congrats on your score. I hope you don’t have this mask converted and keep it as is.
It’s without eyebrows now, I mixed up the order in which the pics were taken…
I will never, ever convert it, that would destroy it! No matter how good a job anyone could do (and I agree that JC is the best) but the latex is simply too old to me messed with again! painting it would only speed-up the rotting process…
Right on. Were the pics of the mask with eye brows before the molding process? Seemed pretty clean before but the pics without the eye brows look like plaster dust or something is in the hairline. Have you tried to clean that up?
No, all pics were taken today, the white powder is baby powder I use to keep it dry and to remove any moisture before storing it again!
Moisture, fat/oil, sweat, smoke, sunlight…ALL latex killers
Judgeing by the thickness of the latex inbetween the eye cuts this is definately the thickest 75 Kirk, I have seen. I don’t see this mask “melting” away ANY time soon nor in the foreseeable future. This mask will outlive you. Since Bill personally produced this mask, he may have used a higher grade latex than the “claytex” that was being used at the time, at Don Post. Congrats on the pickup, nice to see you brave coming out of the shadows, especially considering all the harrassing emails you will now be receiving from a handful of Kirk enthusiast, members here who will be hounding you for first dibs if you ever decide to sell. Thanks for the pics.
