New Score- Buyer Beware!

Hey there-
I recently purchased (but am now returning) the (close to)- life size animatronic RZ Michael Myers stand up figure from Spirit Halloween that was just released this past week.
I bought this in hopes to kind of take a “short cut” if you will, to having a Wayne Toth H1 sculpted mask.
And i figured that with the jump suit and all, i would have myself a moderately decent pair of coveralls, but also have an official mask from the creator of thee actual mask in RZ H1.

Around this time last year, maybe a little later than this, i had written to Wayne Toth to inquire about the possibilities of getting an H1 mask from him. He told me that he did not have any more at the moment… but was in fact able to sell one to me, but not at the moment because he was busy with other projects and the work on H2 was in development at the time… but that i should check back with him.

So i let some time go by and around in april checked in with him to find out how things were and if there was a chance still of getting a mask from him. But again he was still busy… knee deep in H2 and didnt really say anything about the mask. Well i kind of just stayed away as to not bother him concerning this but would drop emails to say - hope things are going well with the movie and such!

Well i saw that this thing (RZ H1 animatronic) was coming out and noticed the mask and even in the description it had mentioned the mask was sculpted by Wayne Toth. So i was like well, this would be a nice way to just get a mask from him then. Buy the animated RZ doll… and also get some, im sure to be, cheap coveralls… but ultimately what would be a Wayne Toth sculpted mask and an animated robot to store all this stuff on-

So i recently wrote Wayne back again and said my congrats on the movie and such… and inquired again one last time on whether he thought he could sell a mask to me and if the mask on the animatronic figure was indeed made by him based on the written description for the product.
this is what he wrote:

Hi Jamie,
I did sculpt the head for the animatronic figure, which was ok to do since it is licensed, but i cant make or reproduce any masks at all, sorry!
H2 is great, i think everyone will like it!
Thanks,
Wayne Toth

So needless to say i was bummed about him not being able to make any of the H1 masks… bcause only less than a year ago he was actually able to. But i thought- well sweet though ill just get this thing that HAS a mask sculpted by him and you know, comparred to buying a NAG Scarred or Diablo which are beutiful masks… which you pay any where from $2-$4 hundred for one of these style masks… i can just get an acutal WAYNE TOTH sculpt for $260 + coveralls and an animatronic figure to use during Halloween-

brilliant right?- well i kind of ?? thought so…??

BUT NO…
not to be.

The head, that has the Wayne Toth sculpt… is PLASTIC!
A hard plastic mold- that, is in fact Waynes sculpt, which is sweet!.. because you can see all his details he did in making the mask- but it is not so cool that i would keep this for the $260 i paid.

I bought this thinking i could wear this mask which it would have been great if that was the case-
but not to be here.

The coveralls are really cheap looking as well as i suspected they would be.

So this long exahausting post (sorry by the way…) is for all the folks out there who may have been thinking like me.

It is a cool prop if you have the money to put into a fancy halloween decor peice…-
But i was doing it to obviously get more out of it than just an animatroinc figure.

Oh well- you can return it, which is what i paln to do.

Well there you go- i thought i would share it with all of you.

Here are some pics:
Take care all-
Jamie

Send the head to a mask maker here on the board and have them cast the head.

YEAH, THATS WHAT I WOULD DO. THAT’S A REALLY COOL SCULPT, NO DOUBT!!!

:axe:

You actually thought they were gonna use a latex mask? Huh…

Anyway with this type of medium this is a re-casters dream. I give it less than 1 month before someone starts cranking masks out all coming from this piece…

it dose’nt say anything other wise in the description of the product- why would’nt of i thought it would be latex?
and you can’t necessarily tell alone from the picture that it is not latex.
someone else mentioned there was a leather face of the same sort of prop like- that did have a latex mask as well.
so i wouldnt say with such surprize, how could of i ACTUALLY thought it was going to be latex.

anyways- im sure you are right- someone will probably copy the heck out of this mask.
what ev-

I didn’t mean any negativity by you thinking it would have been a latex mask; I’m sorry if it came out that way. I just know from what this company has released in the past I knew it was gonna be plastic.

Here is the link when they started to release info on this piece. The sculpt is really, really nice.

Yeah the only one that has a removable mask is the Jason. The Myers sold to the public looks less detailed than the promo pics and video but I expected that.

thats fine man- hopefully, i too did’nt sound like i snareled back- i guess that might have been the KEY question i forgot to ask mr. Toth about the mask-
i have never seen anything by this company as well- so i didnt know and just assumed i guess.
i do believe people will definatley re-cast this. which is’nt a bad move obviously- frownd upon i suppose in circles
but really thee only way to get this sculpt- an OFFICIAL sculpt.
im kinda on the fence right now then as to send it packing for return or actually have this thing made up by a fellow maker?-
i would probably have to do it myself though if i wanted this… once you start involving anyone else and then having them recreating the mold and then possibal sales of this… there could maybe be SOME leaglities involved i might think? as opposed to making it your own and for your own use…
hmmmmm… i don’t know.
well, take care man! thanks for writing-

Does the head seem full scale? Is it easily detachable? No spirit stores are open yet in my area … I’m gonna buy mine in person hopefully to save on shipping. I hope it’ll be 250$ retail in stores like on the website. I hope the head is large enough to reproduce for a mask …

I just saw this at a Spirit store today and the head did, indeed, seem full scale

I picture these things flying off the shelf at the same rate that people are flockikng to see H2. Most peeps won’t give it the time of day…but even those that do have to be feeling pretty much the same thing…WTF? I had no idea that Toth’s sculpt was so “dimpled” or that the “coveralls” had that same shiny sheen that every 5 dollar Superhero cape they give away at Six Flags has. Pretty impressive. I guess it boils down to paying 20 bucks for the plastic head and glossy coveralls…and another $230 for the sweet Divo animatronics. shrug

(Sure to add to the Weincrying’s bottom line) :sunglasses:

well it makes for a pretty cool display. like kirk, im not saying you were an idiot or even gullible for buying it with intensions of wearing it but for $260? you should have known it wouldnt be wearable. at that price even if the mask was made of latex i wouldve figured it was made so small it wouldnt be wearable for anything over a 20" head.
no 260 is way too cheap for a complete myers wardrobe. especially knowing its robotic and moves, thats going to be majority of the cost, so that doesnt leave much money to pay for quality of the coveralls and mask.

i agree about the 260 being too cheap for a wearable myers outfit- i mean i wasnt expecting anything professional mind you- but again where i was kinda coming from was that the pic itself from the ad looked like a pretty nomal size head/mask which it is. and even in the description it said it was 6’ tall and im 5’9"ish so i actually did think it was wearable. the jump suit does come off the figure BUT it is very lousy… but im not that much of a stickler anyways. i have the real coveralls from H1 as well as RZ H1 which is H9??.. confusing- HA ! but anyways- like i said i was into it souly for the Toth sculpted mask- and in which it does not say anywhere that it wasnt a latex mask. in any review given or in the ad itself-
i have never seen one of these before, so i in no way was under the assumption that this would be small and unwearable strictly by the description given.
yeah maybe i was dence about the mask being latex- but i didnt know? and like i mentioned earlier someone had said there was a leather face one out there that did have a latex mask head… and nothing said different that it wasnt in the description… + like i said also, i had written Toth and he just said he did the sculpt and in the pics of this anamatronic- you cant tell that the head is a hard plastic mold.
so i dont think my intensions for this were too far off.
but the bottom line is, and like many have said- …owning this?.. i could make a mask off of the molded head and i would have an actual Toth sculpted RZ H1 mask if i want- which i thought was a great mask. so yeah… i got this and i do have the option to return it,… so that is nice… but i also have basically a scale size mask that i can duplicate if i want- and actually, i own a diablo which is a 22"-23" size and fits my head snug, but to scale and a scarred which is a little bigger and kind of floats on my head- but if i were to make a mask from this mold, i would have one that i feel, would fit just about perfect and it is a screen acurate mask. and comparred to buying any of these others that are out- hence the ones i already own and mentioned, you figure how much those go for?!- this isnt really that much of a money difference to have an actual Toth sculpted mask. and with all of this being said- thats all there is to it. its whatever any one would want out of this… it is what it is. even if some hate that mask or what have you… i dig it- and can make myself a copy of it if i want. so… anyways- heres to you

it’s a cool display for sure. But i’m sure that in no time some mask maker(s) will buy it, pull a laurie strode and decapitate it, and then make some recasts of the head.
Thanks for posting this great information about this Myers life-size.

thats funny the laurie strode-
im glad i could give some info!

hmmm… you could easily make a mask with that head…

eh screw it, either repaint the head or friggin recast it hahahaha. i normally dont condone it but with the false advertising of a good looking display abnd the obsurd price for that turd who cares

That raises a good point to what ‘VOORHEES’ said … is this sculpt really that dimpled and indented all over as it appears or is that an illusion given my the heads’ paint job??
