New Tots Kirk!!

Thr hair color varied on the old copisles and likely will vary now too. A $350 mask for $60 it’s not hard to hand dye the hair yourself but it’s more common to get the masks rehauled by professional artists. Older copies I saw with perfect dirty strawberry hair, so I always go in person.

As for the paint, you really are just getting a general idea from these promotional photos. Again it varies copy to copy. There’s not quality control issues but these are popular masks so they can never really make enough. It was a huge hit in the community.

it isn’t the Star Trek fanbase that made him bring it back. It was for us because he knows how popular the first run was. Even if nor sending it out for conversion, you can search posts of beautiful copies that were finished as Kirks. Honestly never have expectations and you can’t be let down. If I pre-order something my only expectation is for it to arrivel

Kind of bummed about this. Glad it’s back but I was hoping it would resemble the original '75 one more closely.

It literally has genuine 1975 Kirk lineage. It is a retooled Shat and everybody buys them to convert. If you stripped the paint and hair you’d basically be staring at a 75 Kirk. Justin did a better job than I believe anybody realizes. I believe people will be happily surprised.

Wish they redid the sculpt instead of bring back something they already discontinued

Yeah I have one that was converted to The Shape by MDF and it looks fantastic. I was just hoping TOTS would have done a better job with the hair and the paint to make it resemble an actual '75 Kirk. It can’t be that difficult can it being that the original was a mass produced mask too?

Ya have to realize just how much times have changed. And as much as Trick-or-Treat Studios is absolutely outstanding, nothing will ever beat original Don Post in my personal opinion. The fact there is a 1975 Kirk still in existence that aside from a slightly hardened nose and “droopy” look really shows the latex quality used.

Also you have to remember that the mask was a 1975 and was in much much smaller batches. It was a catalogue mask and was truly for Star Trek enthusiasts. In 1978 we saw our first glimpse of the possibilities, but even when looking back there are only maybe 5? Videos I’ve ever seen of somebody wearing a 1975 Kirk. This is definitely not to say the masks didn’t have a fanbase. They did. Just not even 1/4 of what TOTS produce yearly.

Also the sculpt was indeed created in 1975 by Bill Malone at Don Post Studios but was not revealed for public sale until their 1976 catalogue in which it was added to their line up. Times have changed for sure but they weren’t cheap for their day. Being that there weren’t any independent mask makers out there, I’d agree with you 100% the finishing from Don Post is better than any other company. That’s why you’ll see a JC mask and he says “…used my best Don Post hair.” I only own 2 masks with the hair they used but it is leagues above anything else.

Yeah, I was hoping the reissue would have blond hair.

I figured TOTS would bring this one and the H3 masks back under their DPS wing.

Teh fact it still doesn’t have blonde hair, is what bugs me, hell just put the Tramer hair onto it and that would be enough

Completely agree with everything said here- I remember what was available before TOTS! And it’s a great story to see how much they’re grown, and how many Myers masks they have made. The price point is perfect for the average person, and they are great for rehauling as well without risking too much. And it’s great to see them expanding outside of just masks- their Halloween knife props are great and the new “Scream Greats” Myers figure is about the best H1 figure ever IMO, especially at the price point. I highly recommend it to any Myers fan.

I also have a few of their other masks and props- the Billy the Puppet mask, Night Creature vampire, Fluffy from Creepshow (which is amazing), and the life size Gremlin. The sheer number of licenses they have acquired is amazing.

I just looked at my original H2 TOTS mask from 2012 and it has just a tiny bit of rot, but it still works just fine as a mask or prop. I’ve had it for 12 years so I think that was well worth the price. And at the end of the day, their stuff makes me happy which is something I certainly need right now. They have certainly become of the best Halloween companies around with price, selection, and overall quality.
