New white latex on most masks vs old school gelatin flesh colored latex difference

Hi

Does anyone know when the new white latex got mainsteam. Look at the new masks by Ghoulish or tots. It used to be the pink coloured jelly latex we see on old don post masks etc. Is the new latex called rd407. I heard its a mix between latex and synthetic. Is this true. Id love to hear

funny you mention this just now, just tonight I was experimenting with tinting latex to try and make it look like the old DP color from the 70’s.

(not really a fan of the white latex these days.)

I have to say rubies masks stlll use the old school style latex

Does anyone know what makes specifically rubies masks smell like the most amazing custard chocolatey vanilla smell? The masks rubies sell smell the best. what Is it in their latex that smells or an additive put in? Seriously i try to preserve that smell. Its just so halloween to me.

It depends, I remember an article with Don post back in the day. The latex was cut costs by adding other ingredients.

Back in the day they used clay powder mixed into the latex to thin out the latex cost cutting. Also he mentioned another company
that was using sand a s a liquid latex filler O__o

They add vanilla scent to most rubies masks now, Fun World actually did this first as far as i know

I didn’t know the translucent stuff was old. It’s what the H6 mask I have that supposedly was made at the time of the production of H6 uses (want to ask Brad Hardin abut it, but don’t know his contact info).

Tots latex doesn’t have much stretch to it. They probably use fillers, which is understandable with mass production. Indie masks have better quality latex. Most latex usually cures to a tan colour so I’m not sure whether whiter latex has had colour added or not but I would guess so.

I’ve noticed this too. They’re very stiff masks as far as the latex goes. They don’t have that rubbery snap that you get out of a lot of other massed produced masks like Don Post or Ghoulish Pro, or even many indie masks. I also noticed that my Creep is considerably stiffer than my H78 was, so I wonder if Justin’s direction has a bit to do with the stiffness of TOTS latex. You’re definitely not getting this kind of stretch out of a TOTS mask:

It seems to differ from mask to mask. The 05 Psycho i had was buttery smooth and stretchy but my Creep was on the stiffer side. I like the latex Nik uses but I’ve seen a few start to dry rot quicker than the thicker stiffer masks. Whatever latex Ken used on the KHU seems to be the perfect compromise.
