Next horror icon...

Who’s ready for the next horror icon? I am. Jason, Michael, Freddy, and pin head have been the top icons for years. You could also throw in Leatherface and Chucky but it’s been a while. The little dude from trick or treat was pretty cool but I’m ready for the next lasting one. I really enjoyed the grungy reality of Rob zombies Halloween. I think it has to be something realisticly demented to punch a lasting hole into the consciousness of today’s desensitized society. Thoughts?

It’s going to be a tough task when most scenarios have been tried at this point. I thought Scream had a fair chance, but it fizzled out, then I thought more recently Happy Death Day had potential, but not seeing that panning out either.

It’s just tough when you already have icons that have stapled themselves into the psychi of folks minds. A true lasting horror icon will be a major uphill battle to get one to stick. Trust me, I have tried to write my own stories and come up with several different ideas of what might or could work, and it’s unbelievably difficult to come up with something that isn’t just going to come off as a retread or ripoff of what we have already had.

Hence, why the original icons still make the money. Myers stomped a mudhole in Happy Death Day, and some of the other recent attempts at original slasher films, and he’s 40 years old. Jason will most likely make more money than any new attempt as well when he eventually returns to the screen. It’s just a fact, it’s not going to be an easy feat.

I have to agree, I’ve been thinking about this myself. I feel like part of the problem is people are so incredibly emotionally attached to Freddy, Jason, and Michael, that they just won’t give a new potential horror icon a chance. Maybe I’m wrong, but that is a major possibility. I tried coming up with one myself a good while back, and really it was just a mix of a couple creepy looking guys in the 1950’s horror movie “It came from outer space”, in terms of appearance (see image) and the traits of Michael Myers…so not exactly original  My idea for the character was he wore a black trench coat, black fedora hat, black leather gloves, black pants, black shoes, and a black scarf wrapped around his face, with bright glowing yellow eyes, like you see in the image from “It came from outer space” there. I gave him no background story whatsoever, and actually made him very phantom like I guess you could say. Basically the idea was he stalked his victims, and if you shot him, he just vanished into a black cloud, and would go somewhere else. But enough of that, I just don’t really know what it would take to make a new horror icon last as long as Michael, Freddy, and Jason.

There’s a Chucky reboot that’s gonna come out this year. The teaser trailer is already out, though Chucky this time is an evil AI and not a possessed doll

Art the Clown deserves more attention!

I consider ghostface an icon and I guess hes modern you could say. Some people consider jigsaw an icon, but I really dont see that. Honestly I thought the first saw was alright but anything after just got worse and worse, kind of like hellraiser lol. I’m very ready for a new icon to come in, and I agree I think the new icon should he very gritty and grounded in reality. But the hard part I think, is getting a killer as memorable as Myers, freddy, and Jason. I imagine it would be hard to get a killer that memorable because at the same time they would have to be original. Actually, I think the strangers might have some potential. Now by that I dont mean a HUGE icon but an icon more like how chucky is an icon.

Art the Clown from Terrifier.

I like Victor Crowley from Hatchet, Jacob Goodnight from see no evil was ok too. I dont think they will be remembered like the original icons, but they were good nonetheless. You also have Pennywise, but i dont think he will franchise outside of the 2 IT films. I think its far more likely that Michael, freddy, Jason, and Leatherface will continue to be exploited and rebooted than a new icon be created. Btw Sam loomis 78, love your killer concept, almost like a Giallo killer phantom…

Art the Clown from All Hallows Eve and Terrifier. Terrifier 2 was just announced so we definitely ain’t seen the last of him.

Guess I’m in the minority that thinks Art looks great but is in a terribly written, acted, and directed pair of films.

^THIS^

I am honestly in this boat too, the film was absolute garbage, but he looked cool

Sack head from strangers would be my choice as he has the same love of stalking as Myers

Art the clown definitely is in my opinion

Yeah man I love Sack head, he deserves to be a horror Icon. I think he’s the creepiest out of all the burlap sack killers.
