Now that Laurie has no family ties......

The whole thing with him stalking Laurie and Tommy were that he saw them first as they arrived at the Myers house to drop off the keys as The Shape was standing at the doorway. There’s nothing more to it than that. The new film is in its’ own continuity so doesn’t have any real impact on H1.

As to him not killing kids, it’s certainly not without trying. He/it stalked Tommy the same as Laurie (meaning the intent was there) and was certainly going after Tommy and Lindsay in the Wallace house, Laurie was just a barrier between The Shape and them.
In the separate H4-6 continuity he/it attempted to kill 8 and 9 year old Jamie, and rammed Billy with a car- attempting to kill him, then in part 6 attempted to kill both baby Stephen and Danny (and Jamie was 14-15 when he offed her in absolutely brutal fashion).
In talking about why he passed the baby by in H:40 it’s probably because it was just too easy of a kill, there was no instilling of fear in it like stalking victims and it wasn’t really in his way either. If the baby was alerting people to him I wouldn’t doubt he’d “silence” it.

Thanks! That notion of Michael’s concious mind trapped in his own body while its hijacked by another thing is hands down the worst nightmare i can think of… i think that’s why the Shape is the horror character that freakes me out the most from modern horror (since Norman Bates)

She got away from him in '78 and he’s fixated on finishing the job. That’s my take.

It really didn’t look like he specifically targeted her when he got out, until he saw her. He was like “oh s***, I know this one.” Then he decided it was time to finished the job. Great stuff there haha.

POSSIBLE SPOILER

I guess you could say Sartain was directly responsible for their encounter, but I feel like the feeling of seeking one another out and “finishing the job” was mutual between Laurie and Michael.

I think you’re exactly right with Sartain. I really felt it when he saw her threw the door, you know the part. That stone stare said it all haha.
