Do you guys think that had Dimension released The Directors Cut initially into theaters it would have had a better fan response and critical response since the directors cut actually makes sense and has an actual plot and storyline. Where as after seeing it in theaters I wondered just what the full purpose of the movie was and was half and half on it. But seeing the directors cut, I fell in love with it. What do you guys think?
damn i dunno. …
I love the DC. . but i dont like the finality of it. . . the TC leaves it open to a sequel better. . . and yes thats important to me. . . look at h20. . iMO a great ending but it left us with h8
Please explain to me how you think the DC is better than the TC,I think it is god awful!
I think the added 14 min. brought the movie down to a real turd!
:finga:
I enjoyed it slot more…showed more of Laurie and annies relationship and more of how damaged Laurie was…the movie as a whole wasn’t much different though IMO I hated it when I first saw it but love it now
If we’re talking about Zombie’s Halloween 2, then I can’t imagine any new scenes making this movie any better. I disliked it so much I won’t even give it the benefit of the doubt to buy the director’s cut.
Just my opinion. When I want to watch Halloween 2, it’s gonna’ be the original!
Well then with all due respect I feel you are mistaken in your judgement. Especially since all the scenes put back in i felt give the movie an actual direction, purpose and a story, that was very unclear in the theatrical.
To be honest, I watch all new releases on the internet, and the website I used to watch Halloween I & II showed only the DC. I haven’t seen the TC, but the DC is definately a great movie. I even went back to Youtube just to watch the ending of Halloween II with the TC, and I gotta say the DC ending was much better.
It staggers me that the DC was not chosen to be the thatrical release - there were so many bad reviews of this film, it really could have used any edge it could get.
If we see anymore Halloween movies I hope Zombie stays far away from them. I want to see the franchise go back to the eerie ‘in the shadows’ suspense and less of the outright violence.
you want less violence in a michael myers movie haha just doesnt even sound right man
without doubt the directors cut is a better film. as true horror said the DC had more direction, better understanding of the characters/development, and just over all made more sence than the theatrical version. and i was far happier with the ending of the DC.
i think the film would have benefited if the directors cut would have made the theatre. simply because most people agree the directors cut is a better watch.
The directors cut was perfect IMO. I was totally into it all the way through. I was moved by it.
I picked up on so many little emotions throughout the movie, from all the characters involved.
And yes I do believe if the DC was released in theaters to begin with things would be different.
However, there will always be a select group that find something to complain about.
I’m done trying to “explain” it to them.
I’m thankful that Rob took the reigns and made Michael scary again.
The original two Halloween films were not very violent compared to what we are used to in today’s horror films. The originals thrived on building suspense and creating a ‘mood’ if you will. The real horror of the original movies was not the death scenes at all, but the tension built up that lead to them.

I agree, I love the scene where Laurie goes all schizo on her therapist from crying hysterically to threating her and lashing out. I also love the scene of her saying she wanted to kill annie to the therapist too…all of this really added to the character and the movie.

I love those scenes too. There was a lot of beautiful imagery throughout the movie. Rob has a great eye for direction.
One scene that comes to mind is the shot of Michael looking down at the kid trick or treating. The lighting behind him is great. It’s a spooky shot.
Those wide shots of Michael attacking / killing his victims are very effective. It creates anxiety in the viewer, or at least for me. It
shows you how alone they are. Alone with Michael and nobody to save them.
I was hurt emotionally watching the death scenes. Annie’s death hurt me the most. Laurie hysterically telling Annie, “Don’t leave me,” and then the camera
lingering on Laurie’s face after Annie just died in her arms. Then Sheriff Brackett discovering his daughter. It’s heartbreaking. Brad’s acting was
amazing in this.
Everyone was great. Even Malcom. I know many people didn’t like “his” Loomis but I thought the character played out beautifully. The scene
with him at the end when he shows up with the police. He says that Michael won’t respond to hostage negotiations. This stood out to me.
He then tells Michael, “She needs to come with me.” My eyes welled up again.
There is a real substantial story in this movie. I could go on about the things I loved in it but I’ll stop here.
Nope Go on, I love hearing it and it will motivate me to write all mine.
Another emotional moment for me is when Michael spots the billboard. His mother appears telling him, “He’s still out there, rich and famous, all
because of our pain.” It’s incredibly tragic. This is a family that’s been through hell and still they cannot rest. It makes the ending even more fitting
because death was their only escape.
