Old Newspaper Ads from the 80's

I went to a friends house last night to help me with some items I’m working on for an upcoming convention and a freind of his gave him some old Springfield IL Journal Registers. (That’s where he lives.) Going thru them I found quite a few ads that just make me chuckle.

Pranks…AKA The Dorm that Dripped Blood.

The Exterminator…FUN!

Escape from New York as a double feature with Cheech and Chong…lol. The picture for Escape makes it look like a “buddy” movie.

Fast times at Ridgemont High! Zombie and Dawn of the Dead as a double feature…that would have been awesome! Trick or Treats…not a great movie but FUN!

Nothing needs to be said here…I woulda gone to both!

This was Halloween II’s second week out…after Halloween, the Holiday.

Halloween 4’s second week out, Childs Plays’ first week out.

Thank you for these. I used to clip ads for horror films in my newspapers, but tossed most of them out because it was getting a bit hoardish.

I love seeing things like this Billy. Last year for Halloween my local drive-in theatre showed Halloween on the big screen, it was the next best thing to being there when it came out in 1978 I will ever experience! Love seeing things like these old TV Guide ads as well. If only time travel were possible…lol

Thanks for those ads from the good old days when they use to advertise those movies playing at The Deuce Grindhouses here in Times Square, NyC. They scrapped those creative ads so now all you get is commercialized crap :frowning:

I remember I had 2 albums full of slasher movie theater showings and my mom use to tell me, “these are newspapers! This isn’t normal, there’s something wrong with you!” :rolleyes: :laughing:

Great stuff! Thank you so much for sharing these. Like someone posted above, I had a ton of late 80’s and 90’s newspaper ads but got rid of them when i moved. You live and learn…

I made a copy of it years ago and posted it for the board. I saw that another site had it on there so I stole it back. Much like Halloween Movies Facebook taking most of my photos I’ve posted from the movies and throwing their watermark on it and posting…you gotta laugh.

Billy, this is pretty cool, I remember seeing an ad for H4. Prob coolest things I remember seeing are all the video rental stuff advertising H4 and H5. Wish I could get my hands on an H4 cardboard. Those were cool.//. Actually I think I’m wrong, I think it may have been a Fred Krueger stand up and posters for H4/5.
