After doing a total re-paint on the one I recently bought I came to greatly appreciate the accuracy of the mask, but now wonder at its’ origins. due to said accuracy (detail and shape). The gallery states it’s cast from the movie mold, but at that time the only mold(s) left was (were) the damaged one(s) that went on to create the SSN Six and original run Hardins, which look quite different and are quite a bit smaller. Were the original Curses left over original production mold blanks and then later run versions recasts of a blank (which may be why some have lesser detail and features), or were all from a master cast from a blank? I’ve never seen a Curse certificate like most other SSN masks, so I’m assuming (being the first SSN part 6 mask) that there were no certificates that might detail the origin of the mask?
I’ll grab some shots on Wednesday. It matches the shots of the hero in thee gallery where George Wilbur is wearing it and where the crew member with the leather jacket is holding it, same exact profile.
My memory, and I could be wrong, was that the mask was made from the same mold as the opening mask in H20. If that was a mold leftover from H6 or a reworking of Buechler’s sculpt I don’t know but my copies of the Curse look bang on to that scene.
Have to delay posting pics of my Curse, spotted a spot that needed a little work.
I did forget tat the Curses have an SSN Curse stamp on the bottom of the untrimmed neck, it’s stamped on top of the latex through and not engraved in it, but not a removable stamp like on an SSN Shanks.
It was too gloomy outside to do outside shots, but I grabbed a few inside. The lighting/color isn’t the best, but it’s at least something for now. The Curse is on your left. I might add some shading to the nose tip/end, but that’s about it.
A screen used mask from h20 popped up on ebay. A lot of people at the time were apprehensive because it looked nothing like the Winston mask, Sean Clark recognized it as an h6 mask and won the bidding, I believe at the time thinking it was just mislabeled in the auction and later recognized that this “h6” mask was used in the beginning of H20 which is the mask he owns. The curse mask is a recast of that production piece and not from a move mold.
Do you know this for sure, or is this speculation or info passed down? Just want to make sure.
Went back to the opening scene H:20 mask pics and it’s definitely from the pre-damaged mold (the nose is the key), so it appears it was just a leftover uncut blank and not a newly poured mask.
