Sorry if I excited anyone too much with the title but it was something that came across my mind last night while watching an old 1974 “Police Story” episode that William Shatner was in. I just was gazing at all his facial features while watching and it made me think what particular references photographs were used in the sculpting of the original Captain Kirk. I know there is a great chance of who the hell knows… but I also know this would be the best place to possibly find out. I was also thinking maybe none weren’t used much at all. I would guess some Star Trek specifically head shots were used maybe.
Would have just taken headshots from when he was on Star Trek when tweaking his lifecast
I would doubt it. In regards to the face of the Kirk, 98% of the lifecast remains intact in the final mask. The only visible things done are extended forehead lines, the eyes added in, a set of crows feet on one side, lip lines/wrinkles, and life given to the cheeks.

The thing I think is neat about the DPS Kirk is how Mona Lisa-esque it is. There’s Kirk features in there for sure, but it contains this je ne sais quoi that leads into a kind of uncanny valley. It looks human, but it doesn’t. I’m certain it was these qualities that attracted Carpenter and Wallace to the mask in the first place.
Shatner’s lifecast was made for The Devil’s Rain in 74, with the DPS Kirk releasing in 75. Photos of Shatner from that film look very much like the DPS Kirk. I’d post pics but TapaTalk is being a bitch right now.
