The dog scene is pretty self-explanatory, he grabbed the dog by the throat and strangled it so Lester wouldnt bark.
It doesnt take supernatural strength to do that, Serial killer Michael b. Ross strangled 8 women to death with his
bare hands. It would be easier to choke out a dog than a human.
The dog never died. Michael and the dog smoked a joint and the dog got so high that he passed out. Michael then proceeded to due the ghoulish things that Michael does without the dog getting in his way. The dog woke up a couple of hours later with the munchies. That’s what I believe happened. And no one can tell me different.

Someone told me the scene where the dogs legs dangle while Michael is strangling it is actually in reverse. I’m not sure if true or not though, I’ll look into it
