The reason it is up to 5K already is because people are bidding incorrectly on eBay. If you look at the bid history, it is predominantly newbies. No offense to newbies, but they hurt themselves. They think they have to be high bidder at that specific time. I’ve seen it happen too many times, and loved it when I was the seller. They usually tick off the serious collector that comes in and swipes the auction at the end anyway, but they end up paying 2-3x as much. If they just waited and attempted to snipe, the may get the mask for a lot less. This is very good for Bry though. The key to eBay is stealth. That, and not letting one’s ego get in the way by getting into the “I won’t lose” mentality.
It is already more then I thought it would go. Good luck
Well, that and like Matt pointed out,the newbie bidders. If you look at the last bidder who had ANY substantial feedback,it was back around $1200 or so,if my memory serves me correctly?Every bid after that is a brand new Ebay member,or limited feedback. That always makes me uneasy as a seller. That opens up the possibility of non-paying bidders.People that just drive the auction up and up.I have paid entirely too much for items before because some idiot with (3) feedbacks,1 of which was negative, drove the auction up too high. That just means you will have to decide how worth it it is to you.Either pay WAY more than you needed to,or let it go and hope it gets re-listed.it’s a little touchy with this item though because I can see someone not wanting to let that mask go,based on it’s history alone. If I had the kind of money that 5K was not that big a deal to me,I’d pay it for that.It is a handsome piece,in a great display, with a ton of history and restored to beauty.I am watching what happens with it closely.
wow someone did a TERRIBLE job of converting the mask to start with yet in turn someone did an amazing job turing it back into a Kirk. considering it went through that process i would say its worth half as much as a Mint “untouched” 75 DP Kirk.
good luck to anyone here bidding
the reason for the low feedback bidders, could be from people having to start new accounts because of all of thieir accounts being suspended for selling white masks. Mine was suspended and i had to start another one. Just a thought. Low feedback doesnt always mean a newbie.
I considered that fact as well, and it could also be members here that got wind of it and had to create an Ebay account just to bid. That certainly crossed my mind.Still would make me uneasy because you just don’t know. With that said,I’d say that the mask is still in it’s value range. It is not by any stretch as great of a score as landing an original DP 75 Kirk that never went through what it did,or the restoration, but it still is the same piece that has all of that history. If a mint DP 75 Kirk can fetch up to 20K,I do not see up to 8K or better being unreasonable for this one.
Wow nice mask…Its worth what someone will pay, plain and simple.I myself had to start a new ebay account because of selling white masks …I had over 500 sells with 100% feedback. Now I have 9 items sold with 100% feedback…It really sucked losing my original account…I do hate seeing 0 feedback bidders on high priced items. You better believe there are people who create bogus accounts just to drive up prices on their own listings.I know bry would not do this but you better believe there are people who would.
Great job on restoring those horrible eyecuts bry…Its good to know how to do that now.
Yeah,I received a bunch of warnings.Three,I believe?I guess I stopped trying before they cut my account.I have been using Ebay for years and I did NOT want to lose my feedbacks.I have 100% positive with 410 transactions. The last time they warned me I decided that was it.I thought it was BS,but I wanted to keep my account.
that’s really the only way I bid. no point in bidding right off the bad unless you are unsure you’ll be able to bid later. too high a risk of being outbid.
I thought it may go a little higher considering the great Job Bryan did on the restoration but in the end I think it went for a fair price. I’m still amazed with how seamless the new eyes turned out.
Kirk is still for sale. Winner was a deadbeat who claims it was his son bidding and not him. I’ve just about had all I can take on eBay. I’ll be considering all realistic offers on it.
