Well I decided to take a shot at making a life size original H2 cover art skull/pumpkin prop. I’ve been trying for years to find one. I probably shouldn’t have posted anything on this until done because it could become a train wreck. I got most of the stuff to do it. Just going to have to get more paints. But, I’m getting way ahead of myself! I got started but still have a lot…I mean a lot…of work to do. Plus all I have to go by is the artists conception, in one dark angle for the box art. Which gets most of its cool looks from shadowing. It will take awhile. Work on it when I can. Plus it could still become a disaster - worth the try!
So far :
Got a 2nd quality anatomical life size skull. Fixed mouth open using glue & plumbers putty at the jaw sockets. 1st snag - since skull is 2nd quality it has “slight” imperfections. As you’ll see on mine the jaw is crooked. Next - cut skulls cap so only a small portion of the top was left. About 1 inch high at highest point and only temple to temple. Most of the top portion of skull is gone. Glued it on and put a little putty in cracks…once again 2nd quality so top skull part didn’t fit perfectly - could see seam/crack. Some sanding.
Found a perfect shape/size fake solid foam pumpkin. Carved into it just enough & in right position for skull. Shoved skull in. Fit nice and tight - so well I won’t have to glue them. I can literally pick it up by just the eye sockets - shake the crap out of it - and neither the skull nor pumpkin will move. In some of the gaps as you’ll see I shoved cotton in for future latex work.
The upcoming: (hardest/most fun) trying my best using the box art.
LOTS of latex work. Detailing, creating features. More Latex work. LOTS of painting. Detailing/touching up etc. -over & over. If something goes wrong I could think of something else to do with skull. Like I said its something I’ve always wanted since seeing the box art as a kid. So its worth a shot. Well here is a couple pics of just the beginning of a long road ahead. WISH ME LUCK!

Thank you guys…I’m going to need it! I just ordered more paint I’m going to need. Now slowly but surely going to take baby steps.

I’ve got stuff at home for the same project. I’m using a foam skull from Michaels and one of their fake pumpkins. I can see it in my head how it will all come together. It will be interesting to see if I can pull it off.
