For H1, they spray painted the Kirk mask’s blonde hair with black Streak 'N Tips spray, but over the course of filming, the actors would pull on the hair to remove the mask, plus aging over time, the black paint started to come out, thus revealing the original Kirk hair’s blonde color, only now more red-orange in color due to the black paint still in the hair. In fact, one reason the mask looked so dirty in H2 is because Dick Warlock would tug on the hair, getting remnants of black paint on his fingers, then touch the mask itself.

Because this mask is not the hero and this hair is changed.

That’s the Blood Tears stunt mask, and the streaks n tips comes off very easily, which is why there are all the black spots on the mask covering the flesh tones and spots such as the nose, eyes and forehead, cause that’s how Dick Warlock pulled off the mask by grabbing the hair, then pinching the nose then pulling the eyes, you can see the exact same thing happen here after Tommy Lee Wallace sprays the hair, it gets all over his hands and that gets rubbed all over the mask while he does the eyecuts

Ok. So you guys are saying in that pic with Jamie Lee. That stunt mask hair is original don post hair.

it is, they’d never rehair the mask, all the masks had original blonde sprayed with Streaks and Tips that came off from wear and tear

I just find it interesting that the don post hair looks so much more blonde and h2 stunt mask is pretty orange looking. And I didn’t know or think that blonde donbpost mohair with streaks and tips black come more orange look. Thx for replying

it’s mostly due to the lighting that helps give that affect, plus the way TLW sprayed it in the hair to do it like layers, so the blonde will naturally shine through when it wears off, my natural hair is somewhat similar cause it started out a white blonde then I had it sprayed with black hair spray, when I washed it out, it lightened to brown and back to it’s natural colour, now my natural hair is brown with blonde going through it, which can really only be seen in bright sunlight

It is a combination of things. The paint used was not permanent and very messy. So right away this accelerated the natural ageing patina that things get over time. And now 40 plus years later the blonde Kirk hair is aged from time as well as dirt and so is a dirty blonde brown. Just like the mask itself is now a tan color. To me these unintended things lended themselves to the beauty of the movie. The same mask is used for 2 whole movies, except of course a few rare exceptions, and because of the fragility of the materials used the mask changes constantly. And then 2 distinctly different sized heads! It is just crazy how much beauty was achieved so simply.
