I know this question has been posted many times throughout the years but through all the topics discussing the matter I have not found a solid answer. But, what kind of hair was used on the original 70’s kirks? Pics in the gallery almost show different types of hair. Hair that looks like mohair and hair that looks like crepe hair. I’ve seen yak belly hair and camel hair mentioned on posts. But what would be the absolute CLOSEST hair to the real thing?
Sorry for the long post

There has been so many rumors and conspiracy theories about this that I don’t think anyone will ever truly know. I personally like to use just mohair regardless of how truly accurate that is. I believe that the general consensus is that mohair was involved somehow at least. Whether that was just on its own, a blend, again I don’t think we’ll ever know.
Had this H1 78 mask by Darklabs done with Kirk hair “quality mohair” few months back..

Thanks for the reply! I’ve used mohair on some of my re-hauls but sometimes it gets a little too wavy during styling and it seems very thin. When I look at masks done up by artists like James Carter it seems the hair is really coarse and kind of ratty. Is there any way i’d be able to get that effect with just mohair or would I have to mix different fibers?
thats some real nice hair
