I’m stripping and repainting my extra TOTS H2 for Halloween this year. The goal is to give it an H1 look that will also include modded and sprayed hair and weathering. I don’t have access to an airbrush and haven’t been able to find spray paint with latex, so I’m wondering if there’s a way to mimic the airbrushed or spray-painted look. I’ve read here and there that using a sponge instead of a brush is one way to go. Appreciate any help you guys can offer.
Any latex-based and acrylic paints work well. It is hard to mimic the airbrushed look but it really only looks extreme on masks such as the Resurrection. You could do a knockout job without an airbrush. I would use a brush and a sponge for different areas and types of weathering on your mask. Definitely post progress pictures!
Sponge painting or painting using dense cotton (so that hairs don’t come off on the mask, though a wet cotton ball can work well too) both can mimic airbrushing when done right, you just have to use small surface areas and constantly dab quickly over the surface in layers, never do it in sections, make sure to cover the entire surface than go back for the next layers as different regions done at separate times will give an uneven look.
Thanks for the tips, guys. I guess there are no latex-based spray paints out there? That would make things a lot easier.
