There’s no way I could ever choose. I prefer the lighting and Castle stretch of the phone scene, but I also love the way it looks in the closet scene. Something else that gives the phone scene the edge for me is the fact that it’s the very first time we ever get to see the mask up close in detail, and along with that, Carpenter’s chilling piano score right as he raises up into frame, so classic and iconic.
Phone scene is amazing, no doubt. But there’s something about the frenzy of the closet scene, and the look of the mask in that moment where he’s manically looking around the closet for Laurie reflects that perfectly.
Gotta’ be the phone scene for me, that is such an iconic shot of Castle in the mask. The closet was Tommy, which was great but with all due respect he was not THE Shape, if you catch me.
It’s close, I love both, but I feel like TLW’s head fit the mask better, giving it more of a human with an empty face appearance as the mask was intended to give the impression of.
I’m assuming the phone scene is also the same look as what I called the hallway scene. I’ve always loved that look especially in the hallway because it’s got a unique look to it but I’m like everyone else on here to I grew up with the movie and was seven when it came out and that closet scene just has a totally different look it’s amazing how two different people can change the look of the Mask. I’d have to go 50-50 LOL one day I’m this way the next day I’m that way. Plus to me I think the phone scene / hallway scene the hair is much more darker with the spray of the black and the closet seen the hair looks a lot more Brown so those little nuances that to me just changed the mask so it’s almost like two completely different mask. By the way love this forum
The closet scene for me. I know the Castle stretch is really popular, but I’m not a fan. Reminds me of a horse. “Why the long face?” I much prefer the more rounded look of the closet attack.
