hmmmm…
now maybe this thread will get back on track
I recall seeing this mask in person at the DVD release signing in Burbank at Wayne’s store … beautiful design.
I’m trying to recreate one similar to the films process.
Creating a hard shell, plastic face mask then created glued paper pieces atop.
I have a plaster cast of my face already … Does ANYONE know how to make a hard plastic mask from a plaster cast so I can create the under mask???
Also, what kind of paper Wayne Toth used for this mask???
I wanna get this mask ready for Rob Zombie’s Halloween night show at the Hollywood Paladium with Captain Clegg and the NIght Creatures …
bump. mask help?

Well he never really said in the documentary but it was believed to be regular paper. Now as for the mask, what do you mean? If you know the size of your face you don’t have to mold the mask get some old scrap plastic. Cut the size then glue the paper and paint. For a under mask what kind? Why do you need an undermask.
Trying to mimic the same technique as the film’s, Ive just resolved how to create a fiberglass undershell in which to glue or layer the orange paper pieces. Now the questions arrise as how to layer or adhere the crumbled paper pieces ? WHat kind of paper? And how to dirty them with “fancy” movie dirt as I recall him saying(Wayne Toth) …
Does anyone know how to contact Wayne Toth so that i can ask him these questions?

For the mask to last longer I would mix between printing paper and any other thick paper. And also to make it stay you can get some of the invisible spray paint used to finish products and spray to make it stay better. But any thick paper should do.Even plastic works. Movie dirt was used for filming to actually weather you can apply some quick drying adhesive to the top paper and sprinkle some fake dirt or real dirt(you can get fake dirt at Hobby Lobby or any other craft store.) For more tips on weathering go to the new member section it has a how to weather post.
As for contacting Wayne Toth I wouldn’t know. I just know a bit of how he did it. Latex is an easier and better looking way to stick the paper and give it a edge look once its painted.
There’s a model train store by my house, awesome suggestion … I’ll be lookin there for fake dirt tomarrow on weathering thr paper pieces …
I recall Tyler Haslett making a super accurate replica of this mask, he made his the way they did in the film. If you can get ahold of him he might be able to help

yeah, and dont worry about the delays…
he will promise you an additional free mask in the meantime
Also, what kind of paper Wayne Toth used for this mask???
seriously though…I heard wayne toth actually took several 20 dollar bills and simply sprayed them orange before applying them to the mask, he mentioned the grain of the paper was un-matched and that they were already just the right size, so no time is wasted having to cut them
No. It isnt paper mache. Its a fiberglass undershell from Tyler’s lifecast with craft paper pieces rubber cemeted to the surface … Is that all the reference pics available? Making mine for Rob’s Halloween show …
