Hey guys, this morning I discovered a tiny part in the inside ( front) of my 75K felt a little sticky. Is this mask rot? Can mask rot spread in time? Any help or advice will greatly be appreciated. Thanks.

I’m sure there’s something you can apply to that area to seal/contain it.
Any idea what ?

I’ve heard of people applying plasti dip on affected areas of masks… How old is this mask?
It also makes me wonder where NAG gets its latex from or what he adds to it
Personally if nothing works, I would just carefully trim it.
First off, sorry if your mask really does have dry rot. That sucks!
ALL masks have a limited life-span, and will stiffen/become gooey and dry rot eventually. But, they certainly can be preserved to last the test of time. I believe a sudden change in the masks atmosphere can definitely begin or aggravate the decaying process. Say, a mask went from a New York winter to a summers day in outback Australia. That’s a drastic example, but you get the point. It’s also unknown to us what sort of climate conditions our masks go through when in shipping. ![]()
Do you have some ISO alcohol or rubbing alcohol? If it were my mask I would wet a piece of lint-free towel or strong paper towel with the alcohol and try and wipe away the stickiness. It’s possible it’s just some sticky residue that’s built up or come from adhesive tape. Of course, I’m not a professional mask maker, nor am I especially schooled in the production and structure of latex. So my best advice is to give the Mask doctor (Kelly Mann) a call!

Firstly, I’m sorry about your mask. It’s important we take very good care of our masks. Unfortunately, there is no way to prevent or contain dry rot of a mask. But good care can prolong the life of latex. But we should all know the basics here.
The patch on your 75k doesn’t look like your typical dry rot. It’s looks more like a chemical reaction, or residue. Has your mask, been in contact with anything alcohol, spirit, or silicone based? Or has it been seat next to light or source of heat?
I wouldn’t advise using alcohol on your mask, I advise you gently wipe it with some warm water and mild soap, then talc the area.
Remember, heat ( which can start chemical reactions with latex and additives) alcohol, spirits, silicone, inks and all solvents are big latex killers
Good luck!
Thanks for the advise fellas. Mark, good point. The 75K has pretty much travelled the world.
Hmmmm, I’m really sorry buddy, this must be pretty frustrating for you pal!
Ultimately, I don’t think it’s anything serious. Just give it a gentle wash with mild soap and give it a good sprinkle of talc. Keep an eye on it and let me know how it goes man.
Hey guys quick update. I trimmed the bottom and the rot came off. I just couldn’t risk it spreading.
I’m glad you were able to preserve your mask. This is one of the main reasons why I don’t drop big money on latex masks anymore…
Thanks R-man. I had to do it bro. To me waiting and see what happens was just a huge gamble for me. A feel better now ![]()
Try some 303 Aerospace on it.
