Decided to get a few shots wearing my vintage Tex-green Sears jacket, featuring the 102-12" I made for Rowland Kelly.

Dude, love it! If not for the mask and knife, this pic would pass for one of my uncle from back in the 70s!
Thanks, Davy!

What’s the model on that, BTW? Is it a certain year?

Yeah, the jacket.
I’m not really sure to be honest, but I can tell you one thing, I spent almost a year trying to find a vintage Sears jacket in Tex-green. I didn’t even know if they existed, but I was determined to find out. I didn’t even care what style the jacket was… I just wanted something vintage Tex-green that I could wear as a daily driver.
In all of my searching I only ever saw two like this… and I bought them both. The other one is grey.
I got extremely lucky.
I couldn’t quite tell by the photos if I had found the right color, and the seller wasn’t very helpful. They knew they had high-end items and I think they thought I was a tire-kicker. When I inquired about the color, they said, “If you’re looking for a specific color I can’t help you.”
I took a chance and bought them both.
Not only is the one in the photo Tex-green, but it was completely unused. Brand new. It had been hanging in a closet for decades. The previous owner preferred to wear the grey one and it shows. The Tex-green jacket is still crispy-new. Oh, and it’s the same blend as the coveralls. 65% poly 35% combed cotton.
I sort of hit the jackpot way beyond anything I could have hoped for. As I said, I didn’t even know if a vintage Sears jacket in Tex-green existed, let alone made from the same material as the coveralls.
I’m not sure another one is going to pop up anytime soon, unfortunately. I paid waaaaay more than I should have for a couple of pieces of clothing this old, but it’s what I wanted. When I tried to talk the seller down on the price they responded with, “Firm. These are rare.”
I didn’t care for that seller too much…
The jacket?
Yeah, the jacket.

Heh, I’ll have to keep my eye out! I searched around on eBay and couldn’t find ANYTHING like it. It looks great, and you wear it well. ![]()

Thanks, D.
Here’s a photo of them together. If I had to guess I’d say the grey one on the right is older than the Tex-green one on the left. Sorry for the crappy lighting.
The other photo is of the jacket and my Tex-green coveralls in natural lighting.

This is as close as you’re going to find right now. It likely predates the ones I own. I’ve been watching this one for a long time, but it’s the wrong color, the wrong fabric, and it’s REALLY small. The measurement from the clavicle to the bottom is VERY indicative of a jacket made for a time when humans were smaller on average. That’s borderline children sized nowadays. The seller had it listed at $400 originally. Or was it $500? I think it was $500. I don’t remember. These jackets are stupidly expensive.
Like I said, I got really lucky finding the one I did, I just wish it wasn’t so expensive. I hardly want to wear it given how much it cost me to own.

These style jackets in Sears brand and even other brands like Red Kap, Montgomery Ward etc are harder to find because they were purchased in bulk a lot to serve as uniform jackets for a lot of company’s in the 60’s,70’s and 80’s. Examples being mechanics/oil change shops, construction company’s, rescue squad/paramedics, painters and the list really goes on. The point being they experienced a lot of wear and tear and a lot of them ended up with name and or company patches stamped all over them. They just don’t have a survival rate near as much as say chore coats etc. They got the hell used out of them and if they didn’t they normally had something stamped on them and got threw out and or just used secondhand as a work and or dirty up jacket from others not using them as a uniform jacket.

Given the rarity of finding one in new condition, I guess I can understand why the seller charged me so much. Still stings, though, I have a hard time wearing it carefree.

Well it damn near looks painted on worn lol. I would leave that one at home. A lot of ideas for it you could do.. put it on a mannequin with other vintage appropriate clothing, a shadow box etc..

Lol. I tailored it to fit the way I like. The jacket is my size originally, which is amazing itself, but kind of boxy in shape. I got pretty handy with a sewing machine and made it custom-fit.

Man that jacket is skin tight and nearly looks like you’re wearing a jacket made of silicone or latex
But hey if that’s how you like wearing it then so be it!
