QUESTION- Were any other names considered for Michael Myers?

ok- we know other masks were considered, but does anyone know why they called him MM?..were other names considered???

I’ve never heard of it. The character’s name is only referred to as The Shape and Michael in the script if I recall, and the credits only reveal his last name was Myers and so related to Judith. I know he was named after a son of someone in production (or someone in production period), so he was probably only referred to as The Shape during the initial writing and I guess Judith’s uttering of Michael twice (as I recall the only time that name was uttered in the film) wasn’t yet written. The last name works out with the entire Gaelic/Celtic aspect of the series (especially 1-6), so it ended up fitting.

I don’t think there ever were other names for the shape. Carpenter said Michael Myers was named after the real Michael Myers who was the European distributor of his previous film, Assault on Precinct 13.

Agreed Josh and I heard this on a documentary, I have em all I cant remember which one, from Mustafffa Makkad and Debra Hill as well. :slight_smile:

Always thought the name was a bit off for a serial killer. Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, Bubba Sawyer…those are some names you look twice at. Anyone else feel this way?

The name of Michael Myers alone brings terror to anyone that hears it. Unless they are thinking of the shitty actor lol!

Interesting thing about names. Last night, I was reading the Wikipedia pages of famous American serial killers, and I came across something interesting regarding Gacy - aka THE KILLER CLOWN of Chicago. Gacy’s first wife held the maiden name of MYERS, and while married to MYERS, Gacy committed his first sexual assault against a boy named VOORHEES. While also married to MYERS, Gacy had a son named MICHAEL. When divorced, Gacy’s wife reclaimed her maiden name, making a man named MICHAEL MYERS the son of the killer clown. Probably completely circumstantial, but it’s still eerily coincidental.
