Hey, everyone! I hope you’re all doing well. I just recently started collecting Michael Myers masks.
So far, I’ve bought a H1 ToTS mask from a local Flea Market, a rehauled H2 ToTS mask from eBay, and I am currently waiting on a Nemesis 81 mask that I purchased from ShapeKillerStudios.
I’m still relatively new to collecting these masks, and I’m not sure about how to properly store/display them. What kind of display cases and stands would you recommend for these kinds of masks? What else do you think could be helpful for a new collector?

Hey, welcome to the group! First thing, are your masks sealed on the inside, or is it just the brown latex? If not, your first priority is getting some plastidip and sealing the inside to prolong the life of the latex. You’ll need some painters tape as well do not use regular masking tape (you’ll need to cover up holes when you spray plastidip). Do 3 light coats , half hour apart for each coat. I would clean it with isopropy alcohol before plastidipping , but avoid the artist/signatire markings as alcohol will remove it.Heres just a basic guide for maintaning(below), im sure others will have more to add. It’s best to stuff the mask with grocery bags when on display (aparantly styrofoam can damage latex ) to help keep the shape of the well, uh, Shape. Others will post display cases. I’m sure, will help me too because I’ve never purchased any. Feel free to post your masks as well.
ALSO, Do not put the mask in a shoebox, place it above a fireplace or stuff it into your coverall pockets . Lol

Thanks for the information! I’ll definitely do what I can to keep the masks in good condition!
Here’s both of the masks I have so far:
I’d say the H1 mask is pretty good. It seems like it has the default brown latex on the inside, so I’ll definitely have to work on protecting the inside of the mask.
The rehauled H2 mask seems like it also has the default brown latex on the inside, just with some paint residue from the rehaul.
Other than some minor issues I have with both of them such as the eyes, I believe both masks are a pretty good start. I’d try fixing the eyes myself to make them even, but I fear that I’d mess it up.

Yes eyes are really tough. Def draw on them first with pen (you can use isopropyl to wipe it off if you mess the line up) You can use liquid latex/acrylic mix and a toothpick to repair them if you mess up, which is currently what im dealing with , also my H6 TOTS had a lip defect (wart between lips, possibly an air bubble , or HPV lol so im fixing that with latex/acrylicas well.
So the H2 you have is it signed on the inside ? And i should mention, the best protection is to liquid latex /acrylic paint the inside and then plastidip , which you can do for your tots 78, but not on your H2 if its signed cuz ypu dont want to go over that signature and if you just paint all around it , it would look silly.
Heres some WIPs

My H2 mask doesn’t have any signatures on the inside, just the ToTS logo. I may try to alter the eyes at some point, but that’ll be when I have a few more masks in my collection so I have backups in case anything goes wrong.

All good dude. Im here if you need help . Whenever you are ready. It is nerve wracking, but you can only learn by trying. The eyes on your H1 are surprisingly good shape wise. The rights too high on the top curve a bit so you would actually just have to add latex to bring it down a bit. Left eye would need a slight trim however. Your H2 needs some latex build up as well. You could work on the hair in the meantime.

Thank you so much for the advice!
I’ll definitely see what I can do once I get the time and resources necessary to start working on the masks!
I’ll try to have some pictures of my fully completed costume soon (hopefully before Halloween) with either one the updated masks or the ShapeKillerStudios mask.

When it comes to mask preservation/longevity, I’ve heard good things about 303 Aerospace protectant. Easy to apply and matte finish. I believe its been used by a few in the past with little to no mask finish regression.

Interesting . Ill check it out.

H2 comparison. Probably have to stretch yours out a bit more for better idea on what you would need to do. Hairlines not too bad on your copy.
I finally got to redoing the hair on my H1 mask. I cut some of the hair so it didn’t have a mullet. Other than that, I just wet the hair and styled it a bit.

Good stuff!! I see you futzed with the hairline a bit , looks alot better when its not perfect. Lips leave much to be desired. You could use black shoe polish as a temporary fix , can wipe it off easy with isopropyl alcohol or ypu might be able to get away with some black acrylic,(only very minimal paint so probably won’t crack) also wipeoffable.
Boot polish is probably your best option though . This stuff, pictured below not the liquid stuff thats permanent. Id say oil colours if you want something permanent , but you are still new to all this so best to just practice with something you can remove easily if you mess up.
Just a suggestion, mask still looks good.

I tried out the boot polish method you mentioned. I may have put a little too much, but I can already see the improvement with the boot polish making it seem weathered.

I thought i said just the lips! Lol all good it can be wiped off but ya if thats the look you want. Can go a bit in the inside of the eyes following the shape of them . You got any reference photos?

Do a little subtle dusting in these area ,
basically just paint the shadow that is there . Just a suggestion . Just dont go heavy. Try not to use streaking with weathering, you want to stipple it on there, just lightly feathering . Take some paint /boot polish off your brush after dipping , wipe excess on a cloth, you want the effect to be faint, so you need to unload the brush a bit to get it.

I spent some more time wiping off some of the excess polish and applying some to the lips and eye shadow. I also put some around the bottom of the neck to show more weathering.

Nice dude ! Looking good! You should try matting down the sides a bit and twisting up some of the hairs using hair spray to get that balcony scene boogeyman look. Some examples. All personal preference of course.
