To suggest that Ends is a worse film than H5, H6 or Resurrection is just absolutely preposterous. Whether you like the story or not, Ends is an expertly directed film and is of better quality than arguable an entire half of the franchise.
It’s weird how with expertise or not, people’s biases don’t allow them room to judge and analyze nuance and instead proclaim something to be terrible just because it didn’t cater to their every wish.
No violent knee jerk reaction from me, I’ve watched it several times and gave it every chance, but I still don’t like it. Whether you like the story or not, H6 feels like a Halloween movie and has incredible atmosphere, which Ends does not. Judging by this thread it appears that a good number of people agree and think that H6 is a better Halloween movie.

Ends is many things, both good and poor, but I would not say expertly directed. DGG was not the man for this job at all. And now that he’s making the Exorcist sequel and following in Billy Friedkin’s footsteps, it’s going to be even more jarring. Goodbye decent lighting, hello cringy flashbacks.

Yes. Resurrection is only worse because of how corny it was and how stupid the story was. H6 was objectively the worst made film of the entire franchise. Awful editing, awful acting and probably the silliest and embarrassing of all the plot points of the franchise. At least RZ’s entries were stylish and well directed. Story was debatably bad but told a compelling story. But H6 was bad in virtually every poissble facet. H6 was the movie that really sunk the franchise and character into a new low, and the following film ended up being a retcon.
The theatrical cut of H6 absolutely dies have strange, MTV-style editing; it’s choppy and borderline-incohrrent in places - but it works for what the film was trying to accomplish. It feels ok, as a movie, despite its disjointed nature.

It is objectively not a better movie on any conceivable level.

If that had been the film we had ultimately gotten, the discussion might be a little different but not enough, IMO.
