A while ago I made the decision and sold my 2011 Creep. I still had my TOTS H2 and decided that was all I needed to have for Halloween. Well, last year I bought an H18 and I am really happy with how nice that mask is right out of the box. Fast forward to a few weeks ago and I saw a TOTS 78. I completely forgot that they were coming out so I decided to check out one my local Spirit’s and they had two in. I sat and looked at them for a few minutes and while I was impressed with the sculpt, it just wasn’t doing it for me. I went online after leaving the store and saw a few re-hauls and was really impressed. I began thinking, how hard could it be Haha? I have never re-hauled a mask before but thought I would take a chance and go for it. Went to a different Spirit a couple of days later and picked one up at 20% off and some liquid latex. Went to Michaels a couple of days after that and picked up some brushes and paint and got to work. Anyways, enough talking. Here are a few pictures of what I came up with. Don’t be too harsh please, it’s my first go at actually painting a mask or modifying eye cuts.
Thank you! I used a small line of rubber cement where I wanted the new hairline to be and folded the edge of the hair over to create the new hairline. I worked about an inch and half at a time. That left the top a bit thin where you could see through it so I took hair I removed from the back (the hair was too long) and glued it right behind the original hairline to fill it in. Does that make sense?
For the eye cuts, I used reference photos and a dremel. I used a cone shaped stone not first and then a wool felt tip to clean them up.
That’s pretty darn good! I dont dare mess with eye cuts so first go hell of a job. Only thing I see is the skin tone looks too dark and if your feeling it… maybe dry brush a little white from where the skin tone meets the solid white it will look well blended then for, but even as is no complaints here looks great!
I think the h40 is the hardest to rehaul. The ones with minor to moderate paint are absolutely fantastic to do. Results are good pretty much all the time. Tots are really good value regardless of some negative reviews.
The best TOTS is no doubt the H40 just because of the sculpt. That and the H6 are the only TOTS mask I’ve ever had interest in after looking at them in person
I appreciate it. Yeah, the skin tone isn’t quite as dark in person but it’s a bit darker then I wanted. I couldn’t get the color I wanted and it dried a bit darker as well. The white/skin tone blend looks better in person as well but you are right, maybe it needs to be better blended. I may try to do a better job there. Thanks for the feedback, I’m always willing to learn.
No lol. I’m not crazy. I got out of masks for a while and sold my Creep years ago to help fund another hobby. I bought the TOTS because I thought it would be fun to try my hand at painting a mask. Of course that led to me buying more masks now. I still wish I hadn’t sold my Creep though.
