This is just getting uglier and uglier. It starts as a question to spark debate and then erodes into personal attacks. Gross. It’s painfully obvious that the attack was on Nik, referencing the mask maker who speaks about God is enough of a giveaway.
Also, attacking the way Nik spells?? This is not his first language, I challenge a lot of people to write in a second language as well as he does.
I just wish these discussions could be had without hurling insults from left field. Debate about the question at hand…
Exactly Chad…
Guys seriously, leave the religion out of this.
I’m all for a good debate but this topic has no place for religion.
It will only bring more bickering and fighting.
Thanks,
J
Not all just most. Go back and reread my post. I give credit that there are great sculptors among us.
However some of the most sought after masks for their “accuracy” are simply recast. That is all I was saying. Please do not twist my words and I am not attacking anyone here at all!
Chad dont tell me that you will start hate me again and that you will start the game that i recasted masks because i didnt get your blank hocks?
Here in Greece we express it often,i dont think im braking any rules by expressing my addiction and love for God when they accusing me that I said that i have the hands of God and silly things like that.i never started a thread about my believes…

I agree with you my friend.
We are all in this together.
This is suppose to be a hobby.
When a fellow indy maker uses the work of others authorized/unauthorized and then points the finger at another mask maker claiming he is a recaster without any proof…That is my problem.
Let’s try to get this topic back on track…
So, I’m curious on what the board thinks…
Whats acceptable, and whats not when it comes to sculpting a mask???
Is it right to recast off of another indy, since its already been done to a DP, or will a line be crossed in your mind?
Where are the boundaries set?
Just curious of your thoughts?
BTW, I’m not looking for a right or wrong, just thoughts and PLEASE, just thoughts and opinions, NO FIGHTING!!
Thanks,
J
How did soooo much mud-slinging come out of such a simple topic? Chris just asked a simple question which should have been easily resolved with your own personal opinions on “Recasting- When is it ok?”. We have a few that jump the gun and. Automatically assume the thread is about them, we have a few that wanna accuse others of being behind a certain Kirk mask that turned up missing. It’s was just a simple thread that totally turned into a bash-a-thon. Now relegion is thrown into the mix??? What’s next??!! Come on let’s lock it up before it gets outta hand.
In my opinion, people let what they want go. A recast of a 75 Kirk now a days is worth gold. Why? Because it’s something EVERYONE wants a perfect copy of, and almost impossible to get. The difference is, all these masks are meant to replicate the 75 Kirk as best as possible. So when an Indy sculpture is recasted, it’s an issue because it’s recognizable as someone else work if it’s not accurate to the 75 Kirk.
This isn’t always the case. If you remember a few years back, everyone threw a fit about DB supposedly recasting a 75 Kirk mask for his DB2.
Then you have the members who just like starting shit, and don’t realize that if EVERYONE is trying to make an accurate version of a certain mask, and two people make fairly accurate ones at different times, one of them MUST be a recast. There’s ALWAYS someone to call out an artist on an accurate mask if progress pictures weren’t provided. It’s just the way things are.
I have no opinion on when recasting is okay personally, but I suppose it’s fine as long as permission is given. I don’t know who has been given permission to recast what, but there certainly are a lot of recasts/retools being sold today.
