Hello again,
I have read a lot of very wonderful posts and learned a bunch of cool stuff about my favorite movie slasher, and I hope to make a few contributions of my own. First off i have to commend everyone of you for your dedication to this awesome film and character. The coveted Bic Mac coveralls are something I am having trouble obtaining, but I didn’t let that stop me. Once again reading and learning I found that Red Kaps are the next best thing.
I had an adventure ordering my first pair last month, I ordered a 44 long, and found out when I tried them on that they run very tight, yes even tighter than the ones that Dick Warlock wears in Halloween II.
I sent my first pair back and wanted my second pair to fit the way they look on Myers in the first film, I talked with the very helpful sales lady about sizing and ended up ordering a 48 Regular. I’m 6ft 200lbs, and when they got to me I found that I made the right choice. They fit great! Nice up top with room on the bottom the way they should be. Cant imagine wearing the 44’s over work clothes all day long. Phew!!
Anyways, I still wanted the look of the Bic Macs, so I hit the sewing machine with some cool ideas I would like to share with all who are interested. The Pants legs were about 7 inches to long, so I hemmed them, and used the extra fabric to make a pocket flap. See where this is going?
Prior to actually sitting down and going to work, I needed some supplies, so I went to Jo-Anne’s fabrics and bought some chrome jeans buttons, Some snaps and some acrylic paints from Michael’s.
I sewed in the snaps on the inside of the pocket flap, and then rounded the edges of the flaps and sewed it around, as neat as I could. Then after cutting a piece of excess pocket off the top I sewed on the flap to the top of the pocket, and the other half of the snap, and I had a nice right chest pocket.
Then came the button hole on the left lapel, and the jeans style button on the right lapel. I cut a tear drop shape and sewed around it the best I could, and popped in the botton, pretty simple.
So the front of my charcoal Red Kap’s at this point were starting to look a lot more accurate, but I had one more detail. the elastic on the sides of the back side of the coveralls. I just sewed in an elastic by hand to give it that look that fabric an only get when there is elastic sewn in behind it. The conversion was now complete, but they were still brand new!
Yeah I wet them, used them as pajama’s for three weeks, and then I took to the film to study screen caps of the day time scenes to get as much of the oil and dirt and holes as accurate as i could. And the results are in the pics below. I hope you like my imitation Big Mac’s, cuz they took a lot out of me. Please let me know what you think and be honest.
