Nice job! It’s a rare treat seeing these rehauled
Thank you, I appreciate it!
My favorite TOTS mask, I’ve rehauled a few and they look so mean!
The TOTS masks all have great potential if the creative process is well executed. I converted an H1 to an H2 and the other way around, got some cool results too. This poster mask was very fun to do, I listened to some Black Sabbath & Metallica one Saturday afternoon and just got into my groove. My mojo flows a lot better when my brain doesn’t feel like working on a mask is work and I just have fun with it.
It’s definitely a fun hobby and the TOTS masks are perfect for rehauling. If you didn’t know, the H4 Poster mask (previously the Hospital mask) is basically Justin’s Nightowl Maniac sculpt, which is one of the best masks ever IMO. It just needs more shading and it really looks like a Maniac! The only problem with the Poster mask is the stock hair is really glued down, at least on the few I’ve redone. The original H2s, however, the hair just pulls off nice and easily. You can always just leave the hair, but redoing the hair can really be fun and make a big difference, but it is extremely tedious as well
I think when they changed the name of that mask they may have had slight variations, might’ve changed the hair as well, I have to double check. I’m gonna be honest, I have a tough time with setting and glueing hair with my enormous hands! I can paint, airbrush, and do eye cuts all rather well, however hair has never been my forte whether it was obtaining a blank or redoing the hair on a mask, my hair doesn’t always come out the way I want it to; I prefer not to re-hair if I don’t have to.
The Hospital definitely had different hair and the nose looked wider, forehead a bit different so it could be a little different. I watched a few good videos online by “Masquerade works” for hair and they helped a lot- having the right tools is key, and they’re not expensive or special tools. Now that I’ve worked on it, hair is still a pain but it’s one of my favorite parts and can really make a big difference.
I’ve always been a night owl just because sleep never has been much of a friend of mine unless I’m totally exhausted so doing this is a hobby like most of the folks on here, however if I was completely in a position to do this as a full time operation I’d do it the right way; I would love to have a complete underground mask factory producing the most awesome looking creations from soup to nuts which would include old school mask making methods & techniques combined with newer technology like computers, 3D printing, and other fine goodies like digital sprayers! Oooo baby!!!
Heck yeah, that’s the dream! I’ve been up late ever since I lost my job during COVID, can’t sleep or quiet my mind. Getting back into the Myers hobby and redoing masks, coveralls, etc. has kept me somewhat sane. It combines several of my main interests: art, Halloween, lighting, painting, and clothes. I’d love to run a haunted house or a company like TOTS- their story alone is a great one, where a few guys who loved masks and Halloween took a risk and it seems to have paid off for them. I’ve tried running a few small businesses (just myself) and it’s a lot harder than people think. Getting the products for the prices we do with all the different options from TOTS is really amazing. I’d call them up for a job if they weren’t so far away!
I’ll tell you like I tell myself, one step at a time, one minute at a time, fight the good fight and stay in the fight, always, don’t lose sight of the big picture, keep doing what you like, love and live to do as it is not only your passion but also therapeutic, keep doing your creative outlets even when times are their hardest in life or you feel you have no juice left, push yourself beyond your comfort zones, limitations, expectations, and don’t let anyone drain your energies or try to take away your happiness, keep following happy, forget all the unwarranted noise, master your own self and conquer your fears! & KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
Thank you for your kind and motivating words! One of my rehauled H4 Poster Masks I used on a life size prop- I can’t wait to someday put together my movie/horror mancave room and have him all set up!
You’re welcome! Looking good & remember your work is already set up, you already do have your own man cave; perception = reality, you’re already closer than you think to your goals, keep at it! If something comes your way, take the opportunity & run with it however until then have fun creating! It shouldn’t be a chore, ever. For example, if it’s very hot outside, picture being in the Caribbean just chillin’ out sipping piña coladas and listening to Jack Johnson.
