Replicating the 2018 hero mask. |this post will be continuously updated|

I know a lot of people are doing rehuls on the trick or treat studios Michael Myers mask but I’m not looking to do just the paint job or just the hair touchup I’m looking to put a lot of work into this to try and replicate the hero mask as much as possible and it is doable but I might need some help from you guys.

So I’m doing a complete transformation of my 2018 Michael Myers mask by trick or treat studios I have already removed all the paint on the mask and all of the hair.
now just have a plain mask to work with.

So. I will be trying to replicate the 2018 hero mask as much as possible. Therefore I will be using mohair and camel hair to try and get that screen use look (I am tempted to just use Mohair). But every time I put into Google mohair or camel hair all I get is jumpers using that material what do I type in to find the Pacific hair that I will need.

As for painting the mask I will be mixing acrylic paint with liquid latex and some water if need be. As for the liquid latex is there a pacific liquid latex that would be suggested for use as I currently have a liquid latex from a fancy dress store that Is a skin tone colour like a lot of latexes do I need to use a clear latex or a white coloured latex because every time I mix the white paint with the liquid latex the colour is just not there it turns the same colour as the latex unless I use a lot of acrylic paint if a lot of paint is alright the I will just stick with that.

( AS YOU GUYS CAN SEE IN THE PICTURES THESE MASK WERE ORIGINALLY PAINTED BLACK AND THEN PAINTED OVER. DO YOU THINK THIS IS A STEP THEY USED IN THE SCREEN USED MASK? )

If any of you guys have suggested paint colours i should use obviously being acrylic then suggestions are welcome

I have attached some pictures of the first paint job I done and of the mask as it is now. The first paint job was just temporarily for Halloween to make the mask look better. Now I have started fresh and am looking to do it properly ( still some paint to remove.)

I will be Videoing the hole proces so this should be interesting. I hope some of these pictures and info may help some of you guys on your rehuls. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

UPDATE FOR THOSE LOOKING TO REMOVE THE ORIGINAL PAINT ON THE TOTS 2018. I would suggest painting the mask with liquid latex. it will thicken the latex and will Peel off a lot easier. I done this and it worked so well the only problem I had was with the detail on the eyes they was a pain but got there eventually.

UPDATES:
(DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THE SCREEN USED MASKS MOUTH WAS CLOSED? ITS APPRES SO I MIGHT RESEAL IT.)

(JUST FINISHED THE SECOND LAYER OF PAINT)(PICTURE BELOW)

(THE WHITE UNDERCOAT IS COMPLETE. NOW I NEED TO MAKE AN IMPORTANT DECISION ON WHAT MASK TO REPLICATE AS THERE WAS 5 MASKS ON SCREEN…)

Good luck on your project! Looks like you got it stripped down nicely without having to use a Dremel. Power tools work well on other masks, but I’ve found they can lead to loss of definition with these. As for the latex, I use stuff that has a fleshy tone, you’ll see how it affects the paint color as you mix and can adjust accordingly. Basically, it lightens up you color, so just plan a little darker before you mix and add paint as needed. Color is a personal choice. I’m not sure there are any specific color recipes. I do mine different every time, tending towards plain white with a little grey in the mix. For the 2018, I also tend to add just a drop or two of yellow. But it’s a personal artistic choice.

Have fun and keep posting!

For hair, you can search on Etsy, but I tend to stick with crepe wool which you can get on ebay at allcoopedupdesignes.com.

Thank you for your interest and your input. Will keep you guys updated.

Look forward to seeing your finished project. There are photos available of the actual screenused mask which I would use for reference rather than people’s individual rehauks

Oh yes I believe I have grabbed every image available but if you know of some good shots would be grate.

Thanks

I am almost 100% certain the lips are opened on all the movie developed masks. Look at the mask in the last photo in the glass at the convention. The lips are not sealed. Good luck with the rehaul. Would love to see it.

Yeah Christopher Nelson said that there was a mouth slit on all of them, I cant remember where but I think there was a comment on his Instagram that he replied to. Good luck man!

Well maybe they just put a small slit in the mouth with a blade but not actually cut the mouth like TOTS did because the hole is just too big as you can see in pictures below there is still a bit of latex below the crack on the left of the upper lip and the crack is longer then then the TOTS Mask. If I can’t manage to repair it I will just have to make do with what I’ve got.

I’ve just had a go at repainting my 2018 TOTS mask and wanted to try sort the mouth gap too. I’m not sure if this will help but I had a think how I can close the gap up so I thickened up some latex using cornflour and from the inside of the mask I used a very small paint brush and laid the latex over the hole/mouth without it seeping straight through. Once dry I then recut/cut straight across the mouth. I still need to paint it and what knot but its given that extra bit of lip to do something with. Please note I’m a total amateur at this so no idea if this is the best way but seems to work ok.
