Hey guys, I’m looking for a good H1 knife prop. Something safe for cons but better than those foam knives. I was referred to horror effects studios but i spoke with him and he isn’t making them at the time being. Let me know if you know anyone still making these. Thank you!
Thanks bud, I’m looking for someone comparable to what horror express studios was putting out. Like and actual H1 case knife mold. I have a nice knife off of Etsy already but just ain’t the real thing.
But doesn’t Tim make his based on the Case knife? I remember he begun producing knife replicas based directly on the Case 102-12 after the brand and model was revealed.
I worked with Tim pretty heavily on his Case replica, specifically around the handle design.
The “beak”, as I like to call it, is very specific on the H1 knife. Not many replicas get it quite right. It appears very much like a duck head, with the underside of the beak having a pretty noticeable curve. Many replicas, and even originals, have straighter lines for the beak, but the film knife was definitely more unique in its shape.
Screenshot on the left, Case knife on the right. It’s a slightly different model than the one seen in the film, being that it isn’t a forged blade, but the “beak” handle is very similar. Case handles were fairly inconsistent as far as the way the handles were shaped and ground down, so going off of any Case knife you find won’t work if you’re trying to replicate the exact knife from the film.
This is a shot of Tim’s handles prior to reshaping (on the top) and then after we worked together on coming up with the new shape. (bottom) I think he really nailed it. That very revamped replica was the one TOTS ultimately ended up molding for production. I received the very next replica Tim made using the same specs. I think the only thing at this point that could have been improved about the handle is that the entire piece could have been angled ever so slightly, as on the original Case knife, the handle and spine of the blade actually don’t share the same straight line, but break with a slight bend right as the handle and blade meet.
Totally forgot to say this when I saw this thread, specifically this post, this got me to tweak my H1 knife file again, I had the angle down but the beak always threw me off, I’d see the curved one and the more straight angled one all the time
I love the comparison shots showing the handle shape, I own a mint H4/h5 knife Tim asked me for some measurements of the handle/rivet spacing etc
I gave him some pics etc but the tots h4/h5 knife is way off, I still like it as a prop but the shape of the blade and handle proportions are off.
Now I keep the mint herder friedr chef knife in the trick or treat studios display box
