Retooling My H40 Dead Eye Prosthetic

Hello everyone, it is Liam, anyhow, it is summer and I am bored and don’t know what to do. So I decided to.do.a little project, which is to retool my H40 dead eye. Here is the clay sculpt before.

Here is the journey of my H40 dead eye prosthetic. While I was molding it at the time (2023), I was very very new to molding with plaster. What did I do wrong? Well I made the clay walls where the plaster goes way too short & not structurally sound, so plaster started leaking out from the base and from the top where we were pouring it. I was mostly rushing through the molding process & putting on the plaster strips and not paying attention to what I was doing because of the leaking. After about 2 days, the plaster was dry. When I de-molded the piece, I discovered that the plaster strips were visible in the inside of the mold. At the time, I though no biggie and just placed more plaster over it to blend it in.

And then when I though everything was fine, I did a pour of latex into the mold, when the latex was dry, I pulled it out and discovered there were big holes in the mold.

I patched the holes up and did several pours and it lept happening. Then I stopped using the mold for a while because of how damaged it was. Until now so I can fix it because I never give up. So anyhow, I started working on it and it is going smoothly. What I am doing is I first poured melted monster clay into the existing mold, when it dried I cracked it out of the mold. Here are some pics of the raw clay casting

Next I started retooling the sculpt and adding more details and fixing things that I did not like. Then, where I am at now added a border around the sculpt because this is also going to be a prosthetic.

This is it right now, I am very happy of how well this is turning out. I will keep you updated on my journey of retooling my H40 dead eye prosthetic. See you soon
BYEEEEEE!

Critiques are welcome

Liam, hey dude!
Sign me up for mask inserts for both eyes as well as for the one eye.
Thank you!

Thank you for the compliment. My next project is to make an full eye insert in the H40 style. I am currently offering 78 style eye inserts. Here are some pics of my personal copy…

Awesome! Just hit me up with the deets on the painted and unpainted versions of both, and where I can buy them directly. If we can ship them together, that’d be cool to save some cash on shipping. Also, let me know about prices so I can make sure it fits my budget. If I can’t get ’em now, I’ll be sure to spread word around either way, I know people who will buy these for sure. Thank you!

Sorry with the late reply. But I am still tweaking the prosthetic because I am a OCD addict, lol. Spread the word. I am going to price them at about $40 - $50.

Why it is taking so long is because I need more plaster

Did a bit of tweaking and smoothed out the skin so instead it was smoother and still had detail, rather than being very rough looking.

Also, thank you for the support

Hello, about the eye insert/prosthetic. The unpainted 78 eye insert will cost $42 and the painted one will cost $50. However, the unpainted dead eye appliance will cost $35 and the painted one will cost $48. I am going to cast it up tomorrow. I am going to ship them all in one box if you are interested.

All good man! That’s what it’s all about! As a community of artists, we’re here to inspire and uplift each other, keeping the magic alive together in the spirit of Halloween, all day, every day.
