I’m looking for a retractable butcher knife to use as a Myers knife prop. So far I can’t find any and wasn’t sure if this is only a custom item. Anyone have more info on this or could tell me where to possibly find one? Thanks!
this is very frequently asked, but ill be the nice guy and answer since some people cant spare two seconds out of their lives to respond (i know how it feels)
there are a few reasons you dont see too many of these…one of them being it would be extremely expensive and potentially not worth it for the maker…another reason being it would probably be a little tough to construct one and would most likely break very easily…i beleive a template was made by JC the knife guy but i dont think anything ever came of it…and he didnt ever make one i dont beleive so that leads me to beleive theyre just a pain if he hasnt even done one ya know?

Just seems strange to me as there are countless movies with butcher knives as the weapon of choice (including the Halloween series) and there are no props except for a small dagger. Would think somebody figured it out. Maybe something I could work on. LOL

scream 4 and RZ halloween both constructed retractables…i just never seen an indy maker do it
I’ve got 1 of the 2 retractable knives from RZ Halloween. There was also a retractable bowie used in RZH2 as well as a retractable like the one I have used in the hospital scene. I can understand why nobody makes these to sell. They would get used and abused (as intended) then inevitably end up breaking. Theres also a liability factor. What if it jammed up and you ended up hurting someone. Scout thought she was picking up a retractable in RZH1 during the basement scene and it was actually one of the hero knives. She ended up stabbing Tyler in the shoulder with it. Luckily the hero knives had been rounded off a bit at the tip in addition to the dulling of the edge for H1. The hero bowies in H2 had the edge dulled down but the tip is still pointed/sharp. I don’t mess with the retractable feature because I don’t want to break it. Heres a pic
